WIP Wednesday--Bunny Blocks and Granny Squares

It's been a week of bunny blocks and granny squares.

Let's start with the bunny squares.  Thanks to 4 hours at sit n' sew at the local quilt shop, I was able to get all my bunny blocks cut and most all of the bunnies basted on.  I finished the basting, as well as completing one of the bunny blocks while out and about waiting for others in my van.  The plan on those is to keep the box in my van for handwork while waiting.  I am going to be joining a stitch group for handwork as well, so we will see when that starts and what work I can plan while with the group.

I have 20 bunnies.  If I stick with these and just butt them next to each other with no sashing, it's not going to be a very large quilt.  Time will tell on what I decide to do here.

Now for my granny squares.  As you know, this was a Granny a Day 2012 challenge put out by the Hooked blog.  Click the button to check out her blog.  I have completed my blanket and my pillow both and I am done for the year.    I was going to make you all wait to see the finished products but decided not to.   I have a total of 340 squares in the blanket and pillow combined and that would have taken me to December 5.

WIP Wednesday--Handwork Is Ready

I can say that I've gotten in quite a bit of crafting in over the last week.....but not as much as I would have liked to!

Let's start with my hand applique project.  I pulled out materials and have them lined up for more bunnies.  I went and bought 2 bags of embroidery thread, and I put all my supplies into a shoebox.  My plan is to work on this Friday night at sit n' sew.  Before I work on it on the go, I need to finish up the Bambi quilt I currently have in my van to work on.
The year is coming to an end and I am getting closer to finishing up my granny a day 2012 blanket.  Here it is, day 312, November 7.

I finished crocheting up an order of a dozen dish scrubbies this week.  I really really really need to work on a set of pillowcases that are ordered as well.  I've been putting it off since I am going to try something new with them and applique on pictures.
I am still working on this knitted prayer shawl for church still.  I only pulled it out 2 evenings, so not too many more rows put on it.  I hope to get it completed over the next couple of evenings and get it delivered to church.
The challenge has been put out with our quilt guild.  I have some pre-cut blocks that I want to use for it and I have some ideas rolling around in my head.  I'm going to make mine a table runner in some flowered materials.  The completed challenge project is to be done by the April guild meeting.

Oh, so many UFO's still sitting in my craft room, and more projects that I want to start on!  I have my crafting work ahead of me.

WIP Wednesday--Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

It's past time for me to be serious about my crafting----and this time stick to it!

I've been so super busy away from home that my blog has been neglected.  I took photos for last week's post then got busy and didn't get the post done!

Here is the photo of what I am calling the never ending quilt top for sewing club at church.  I'm going to make a real effort to work on this at home too in hopes of moving it along on being done.  I'm not getting far for sure working on it only once a month at church.  We met twice this month.

I am making these little strawberry pin cushions for quilt guild.  They go in each goody bag that will be given out at the door at our quilt show in July of next year.  I have 5 more to make.

It's past time for me to get serious about finishing up projects that I have started in my 2 UFO drawers.   This is a baby quilt with Bambi.  My first try at machine quilting since I now have a new machine and a walking foot.   I pinned it and have about half of the quilting done on it since taking the photo.

I was able to finish up some baby bibs and fabric bags over this past week.  I am still working on knitting the prayer shawl for church but forgot to take a picture of it last night.  I have one more skein of yarn to put in.

I'm behind on my granny a day challenge.  This is my blanket so far up to October 29, Day 283. I hope to have my days caught up to post this time next week!

WIP Wednesday--New Sewing Machine!

That's my big announcement for this week.  I got my new sewing machine.  No, it's nothing expensive or fancy.  In fact, with the state fair half price special and 20% off of the 3 extra feet that I ordered it was just $260!

It's a big step up from the little Brother that we bought one Black Friday at Walmart for $60.  I never complained though, and I sewed for over 4 years straight on the cheap Brother.   I will still be sewing on it too, at least if the measurements aren't the same.  I have to check that out, but have the one quilt top that may need to be finished on my old machine.

I'm loving the automatic threader and the thread cutter.  I can't wait to play with all the extra stitches that I now have too.

In other news I've not gotten much done in the craft area.  I sat last night and I wanted to finish my block for sampler but it got too late.  I do have to have it finished before sampler on Saturday, and have worked a bit more on it this morning.

The quilt shop printed out a photo of the square for us since we are using a bit different colors than what the book does.  My first time making the square in a square.  I just finished that and it looks pretty good.  And, the reason the sampler excites me because I will be learning new things.

Otherwise I have crocheted and crocheted granny squares this past week.  I didn't get anymore put on to the blanket as I am trying to see what I can make with what yarn I have left.  Again I am running low on variety of color.  I don't have many colors left now.  I will be adding to the blanket over this next week and then again making more squares.
This is just a picture of the squares I have made at the moment.

That's it for this week.  I do hope, with my new machine that I have a lot more to report next week.

WIP Wednesday 9/5/12

I wish I could report that I have kept up with my goal of making it into my craft room each and every day.
I did make it in there 3 days out of the last 7.
I have an idea in my head on how to make some pillowcases with applique, but it's not gone past my head yet!  I bought the fabric only to find out that what I bought wasn't wide enough.  So, I only ended up being able to cut the size for 3 pillowcases instead of 4.  But now, as I get the instructions out that I printed I see that it does state 42-44 inch fabric.  It was 42 inches!  ggrrr  I've messed it all up.  Just that takes my motivation out of wanting to make them.
Not to mention that I don't know that much about applique.  I'm going to experiment with that on the leftover piece of fabric.
I guess all I have to say is wish me luck.  I don't know how I am so confused....pillowcases should be so simple to make!

If you have a link to a simple pillowcase pattern and tutorial, please give me the link.  Thanks!

We are coming up on a busy week as the state fair starts this Friday.

This past week I did manage to at least sew the half square triangles, cut them and iron them.  The ones that I had lines on last week, if you remember my photo.  This isn't all that I need for the quilt top but it's a good start.  Now if I can just get more of the squares put together.
This is my progress on the knitted prayer shawl for church:
And, you know me, I can't stay on just one project.  I have started crocheting  the prayer shawl as well.  I can't make any more granny squares until I finish the prayer shawls to see how much yarn I have left to use in the squares!
I am a bit further on this as I took it last night and crocheted while we had bingo family fun night at church.
I believe that is it for this week.  I'm working on getting some more items listed to my etsy shop and I sold my very first quilt!  I'm getting that ready for the post office now.

WIP Wednesday--We are on mini-vacation

Nothing unusual about the fact that I didn't get any sewing done this past week  :(
In fact, I don't remember working on any crafts...hhmmm

We are, however, on our mini 2 day vacation away from home.  I crocheted granny squares on the way here to Dodge City.  Looking at them laid out I think it will take 9 on each side for my pillow.....at least I hope.  I will crochet more on the way home this evening.  At least I will be able to say I did work on something.

We stopped on the way here and went to a museum.  I loved this sign we seen there:

We are having a good time.  Hubby and I left Jasmine at the motel while we checked out the casino.  That was fun, and we were good and only had so much to  use on the slots (we played the penny slots) and we came back with most of that.
We just got back from the free breakfast here at Days Inn.  Wow...I was impressed with the food choices!
We are about to get packed up and head out to Boot Hill.
I wish we could have a vacation and stay somewhere at least 3 or 4 nights....maybe next year  :)

WIP Wednesday--Let's Keep Busy!

This week I said to myself---"self, you need to complete all the projects you have started before starting something else! You also need to get things listed in the etsy store."

Well.....now, I did start that prayer shawl of granny squares for church. I had to do that to get some more colors of yarn, and more yarn to make the granny squares for my blanket.  This is how far I got on it, and now my yarn basket for the blanket is full again.  I just hope it's enough to finish the blanket....and the matching pillow.

I didn't get much more done as far as organizing my craft room.  I did empty 2 totes, one full box, and a partial box onto this shelf.  I also picked up some of the grandkids' toys.  I do believe they are going to the garage!
I also did get the squares cut and materials out for a quilt of my own.   I do need to always be working on a quilt for myself as well as the one I am working on for charity.

I debated on whether to work on the quilt for church.  In order to really get any work done on it, it needs to all be laid out so I can see what I am doing.  I chose not to.  I will wait until sewing day next week at church to work on it again.  Then, hopefully, I will lay it out to work on it again over the month until we meet again.

I also bought some cute Halloween fabrics at the quilt shop.  I have sit n' sew this Friday evening so I plan on making the bags there.  That is a new project, but I should be able to finish them all in that evening, and get them listed for sale in my etsy shop.

Now that I am done typing this post I need to get back to my WIP at hand, which is cutting and sorting this huge pile of coupons!  Must be ready for that shopping trip on Friday.

WIP Wednesday--Let's Start with My Craft Room

Let's start with my WIP of getting my craft room back in to order.  It's in such disarray, it's no wonder I don't have the motivation to get in there and get some work done!
This picture only kind of shows one corner.  You can't see everything that is piled in the northwest corner of the room, or the bookshelves in the southeast corner that are covered with other stuff as well as have toys in front of them!
I've went to the garage and got out one large shelf unit.  I had bought it to use for garage sales.  Silly me, why didn't I put it in my craft room to begin with?
You can see in the photo (maybe) the 2 small cubby organizers I have bought and have got some things organized in to.
Wish me luck that next week I can share a photo where you can see that I have made some progress in this room!
Moving on to some crafts now.   I have been knitting some knit kits  for Morehouse.  They sent them to me to do for a review.  The scarf went fast with the big needles.  The hat I've been working on here and there for over a week.  I'm not an avid knitter, and I'm not sure I've worked with needles as small as the ones for the hat before.  The hat and scarf will make a nice Christmas gift for someone.  I will have a full review on my blog once I have completed the projects.
After working on this quilt at sit n sew at the quilt shop and for a a bit here at home, it's finally to the last stage.  I am sewing on the binding.  I hope to have it done to post for TGIFF this week.
Last but not least are my granny squares for the Granny A Day 2012 challenge.  No picture of my blanket progress as I've not had time to put them on to the blanket.  This is day 207 of the challenge.  Hopefully next week I will have them on to my blanket.

Until next week!  I am linking up with the following blogs:

WIP Wednesday 3/21/12--My Camera is in England but......

......I made sure to get pics for this week before sending it off with my daughter.  Yes, I sent my camera to England with my daughter, in the hopes that she doesn't lose it while she is there!  Of course that she also gets tons of pictures taken.  She doesn't return until the evening next Wednesday so pictures will be about none next week...unless I try to figure out how to save my cell phone pics to the computer.

I've gotten more work done on the cross magnets while out and about but didn't take a picture.  I think I made 7 or 8 more and have magnets for 12 more.  They are sometimes good sellers at our garage sales, which will be starting soon.

I worked more on the flower quilt I am working on:
I am happy with my progress on the scrappy quilt for sewing club at church....just 2 more rows to sew together, and they are pinned ready to be sewn.  This one has been fun...like putting together a puzzle and I love the way it looks.  I thought of making one to put up for sale, then thought no, but now I am thinking why not?  It takes forever, but hopefully eventually I would get it done.
We are on Day 81 of the Granny a Day 2012 challenge.  I am worked through next week with a picture so I will at least have that to share next Wednesday.  You might notice that I have started putting the edging on as well as far as I could.  That's Molly posing pretty on the bed with it.
The remainder of this week must be working on the other 2 walker bags for quilt guild.  They need to be turned in on Monday.  No sewing today----I stayed up until 4 am watching my daughters flight to London online---and it's a cloudy rainy day too, so I have no energy---plus hubby and I are cooking today for supper at church tonight too.
