Frugal Friday With Marsha--I Remember When.......

I remember when......
I was so excited to finally get the internet.  Seems like a lifetime ago back in 1996.  I was having one of my refund conventions and some of the ladies who came were talking about all of the good coupons they were getting by emailing off to different companies.

You know what I did.  As soon as we had internet, I started searching companies such as Nabisco, Kraft, Kellogg's etc to try my hand at getting good coupons in the mail.

When I searched Kellogg's, a site came up in search.  I don't remember the name of the site, but you took fun little trivia tests to win points.  Points that were then traded for gift cards.  You guessed it, that was the start to my internet addiction----the addiction of earning online.

I find it hard to believe that was 20 years ago!  Things sure have changed in the earning department.
Back then and for several years, the earning was super fun.  By that I mean I was earning by playing games, not writing or doing traffic exchanges or paid to clicks.

I sure miss those days.  If there are any sites out there now that you can just have fun playing games (mahjong was always my favorite), I don't know about them.  Do you know of any??
Swagbucks did have mahjong and I was ending my day with 10 games there before bedtime.  Sadly, they have taken that away.  I play whatever the free play game of the day is for points at GSN cash games.  That's just a few points daily, so it takes a long time to actually be able to get a gift card.
There are also some games on GSN itself that are for points that I can play----it's just that they don't have gift cards in exchange for points other than trying to win them with points and I don't have luck at that.  They do sometimes have some other cool prizes like decks of cards or an umbrella, then there used to be a book of the week and DVD of the week.  I should check to see what there is and get back to relaxing more at bedtime with some games there.

Anything you can earn online helps.  I did get in the cat food and cat litter that I ordered from amazon.  Now to save up again.  I am truly in hopes of always having enough to order it there, but we also need ink for the printer.

Speaking of coupons----I have started to at least buy the Sunday paper each week again.  Today I am going to actually get those cut out, at least the ones for things I might be buying.  I also hope to start getting back to the groups where people share good deals as well.  Wish me luck!

I hope you've had a good week.

Add Fun to Your Gift Giving with the aMAZEd Money Maze by aGreatLife

The aMAZEd Money Maze by aGreatlife really does add lots of fun to your gift giving both for yourself as well as the recipient.

When my Money Maze came in, everyone in the house was fighting for their turn to try it.  By everyone I mean 5 grandchildren ages 6 to 14, my husband, my oldest daughter, and a friend that was over.

I chose my 14 yr old grandson to help me make the youtube video below.  Once he solved the money maze he chose to fill the bank with Hershey's Kisses.  Once someone solved the puzzle, that was their prize.

I took this shot of the oldest granddaughter that is living with us giving a try at figuring out the maze.

I think you can see that this does make gift giving fun for all.  Cash or a gift card can be put inside, or candy is a good idea too.
The gift doesn't stop once they get their "prize" inside.  They can still use the maze as a bank.

I know there hasn't been a day at my house that someone hasn't picked up the Money Maze to work the puzzle.  It's fun to watch them.

This makes a great gift for pretty much any age.  It's recommended for anyone ages 6 and up (my 6 yr old grandson has had a number of fun tries to figure it out).  Even adults will enjoy it.

It comes with this guarantee:

Wip Wednesday--At Least Some Progress

I tried really hard to get back to the schedule I have written up for myself on getting projects worked on, but it didn't work very well.

Thursday is set to be any UFO and I decided to get out the hexagon flower table runner that I worked on at the last quilt retreat.
I ended up very frustrated, to say the least.  If you remember, I had already started hand embroidering the blanket stitch around the edges of the flowers since I didn't have a sewing machine with the blanket stitch.
Since my new machine has the stitch, I started sewing the blanket stitch around a flower.  It looked good, so as I sewed (like a dummy) I was stopping to take out the hand embroidery.  Well.....in the end, the stitch was totally whacked out.  It worked fine on my sample cloth, but I am assuming something about going through the layers including the applique paper, didn't work.
UGH!!  As you will see in my photo, hours and hours later I decided to just try a straight stitch around the inside and outside of the flower.  Worked fine on the outside, but even the straight stitch through the layers of the flower didn't work right.  My thread kept breaking  :(
I will plug along with it, but it's put up again for awhile.

Sunday is to be my day to work on rugs.  Saturday instead of getting out hexagons, I chose to try to start yet another rug. (Yes, this would be why not much gets done and I have so many UFO's)  I had looked through a book titled Upcycled T-Shirts that a gal at quilt guild had.  I swore that inside I had seen the idea of making a latch hook rug with t-shit strips instead of the yarn pieces.
It turns out that the idea must have come to me while I was looking at the book, because although there are lots of cool ideas in the book, this wasn't one of them.
I will cut the rest of my strips down to bits before I put this away yet today, but so far it looks like it will be a neat rug.

Monday was our community sewing project day at quilt guild.  I sure thought I was going to get a lot further along on the 2 pink quilt tops I had made.  I only ended up getting the smaller pink one sandwiched and tied.  So, Thursday's will really need to be my day to finish these as they do have to be done by the meeting on February 22 when the agencies that are receiving them will come to our meeting to pick them up.
