For a birthday gift, one of the lady's at church gave Jasmine a $30 gift card to Hobby Lobby. She spent it buying a sketch pad, drawing pencils, blending tools, and chalk pastels. Jasmine loves to draw and is good at it too. She is self taught through books and the internet. I'm thinking of a squidoo lens to highlight her drawing as part of my homeschool series there for this year. Here she is drawing this past week:
In other news this past week---I feel we had a pretty good week.
Another thing that Jasmine bought with some of her birthday money was a Belly Buster. This has her actually doing daily physical activity according to the instructions.
Sunday she was still at camp until after noon.
We made it through every subject throughout the week.
I checked out a lot of books on Greece from the library. They are from the children's section, but have wonderful pictures. We are reading through those. They will also turn in to a squidoo lens.
She's enjoying the Introduction to Business textbook. I'm glad as it will help her understand a lot more than business.
In home-ec we read through the section on doing laundry. It's prompted her to want to get back to doing her own laundry--now if it would just prompt her to put it away instead of leaving it in piles in her room!
She's making sure to write in her journal on a regular basis.
Math is math---we were studying rates and ratios last week. We will continue with that this week as well as she will work in the Algebra 1/2 textbook.
And, only Jasmine would do something like this---she is reading the ebook of How To Raise Up A Child. She chose to read it since we are having so many behavioral problems with my 2 yr old grandson. Last night she asked me if I would read it out loud to her instead though.
I'm going to hop along for this week. We will be leaving soon for our weekly Bible study at church and our weekly trip to the public library.
I am linking up with:
Yes, last week started out with Jasmine's birthday. She's 15 years old now. Soon she will be grown and out of here. It's a sad though indeed. She is my youngest of 4 children.
Here are a couple of photos from her party:
The second one is my 2 yr old grandson having fun with the noisemaker and hat. She had a nice party with family and friends over. And, she got her prized gift of her own cell phone.
In other news for the week of homeschooling:
We had a pretty good week. Tuesday was my sewing club. As much as I would love for her to put down the books for the day and help us and learn to sew, she doesn't have an interest. She works on schoolwork on her own while we sew until 3 pm. She doesn't get down there until almost noon after Bible study upstairs. Bible study at church is something we do each Tuesday, but I miss once a month for sewing club.
Although we only made it through every subject 2 different days last week, I am still very pleased with the amount of work we accomplished.
Jasmine attended the weekend fall retreat at the Kansas Bible Camp. She's good about telling me what she's done that would count for school. This included all of the chapel times, all of the game time, as well as their service ops time.
I went to list a textbook up for sale in my half.com account, but then decided I want to use the text with Jasmine. It's Introduction to Business. It's been a fun textbook so far, and very interesting. I did list it, so, if it doesn't sell (at least not right away) we might get to finish it. If it does sell, in the meantime, I am going to work in it with her until such time.
I have bookshelves in the other room of books for future use---books we've used in the past but maybe didn't finish----and then I have milk crates full of books that I have for sale. Always something to find at my house. So much, in fact that I have considered opening up a homeschool lending library and contacting our local group to let them know about it. We used to have a lending library at a members home but they have long since been done with homeschooling and moved away. I know that I sure miss the opportunity to check out books. I'm sure if I did open a lending library that several families would donate books and things for me to have available to share as well. I'm sure going to keep this in mind.
I better move along for this week. I'm linking up with:
Good Morning! Thank God It's Friday...and I mean that because I get to go pick Jasmine up from Bible camp this evening. I've missed her and I'm anxious to know how her week's been with all the rain we've had this week.
I've been up early today, grabbed a bath, delivered some Avon for my mom and then did some grocery shopping. It's 10:20 am and I am just now getting on the computer.
I'm about to get the download done for the homescan scanner here on the laptop. My computer just isn't right.
I got a couple more videos put in to gather last night. Today I will go ahead and put in my shopping trip even though I only used $3 in coupons. I still did get some good deals.
I could wish for no phone calls for someone needing rides today but I'm sure it won't happen. My mom has her first night of her class reunion this evening. She's nervous about going. Then, they have another night of the reunion tomorrow. Guess I better get busy getting what I can done before someone does call for me.
Here's to a great start to your weekend! (It's still supposed to rain all weekend here and we are having the church yard sale tomorrow.)
Marsha
Good Morning!
What a long run run, and run some more day I had yesterday. I won't repeat it all here, but if you want to read about it, check out my gather post What a Whirlwind of a Day!!
You can also check out my weekly shopping post if you would like Grocery Shopping 5/28/09
Today I planned to go nowhere! I have clothes mending to do, lots of things on the computer, house cleaning, Jasmine needs to finish her frog lapbook, and we need to finish getting her packed for camp. But, no, my mom has already called down here needing to go to the clinic to pick up some medicine and wants to go back to her chiropractor. (sigh) There is a downfall to having my own transportation agan. I am leaving to do that running as soon as I get this typed up.
I'm almost done with my 1st bottle of water for the day and will fill another on the way out the door. This is for an 8 day challenge on gather to drink 8 glasses of water over 8 days. Today is day 4. If I can make myself keep this up it will not only be beneficial for my health but also my pocketbook not buying so much Dr. Pepper.
I better get a move on, get mom her places and get back home and get serious about what needs to be done around here. Here's to a great start to your weekend!
Marsha
Here we are to the last day of November. We got our first snow yesterday. It didn't last long, and it didn't stick. I took a short video and uploaded it to gather.
It took me 4 tries before it uploaded and submitted. While I waited I cleaned. In fact, I did a lot of cleaning and organizing yesterday but have a long ways to go until this basement is cleaned and organized the way I want it. I still am not far enough to be able to put up the Christmas tree but I will work on that more today.
After the cleaning I started finishing a rug to put down on one side of Jasmine's bed. I will finish that today too.
We are getting a ride to church today since there is a youth dinner after church. However, my mother is upstairs saying she got the pink eye from Jasmine and shouldn't go. She's not even really been close to Jasmine let alone touched anywhere around her eye. The woman thinks all she has to do is look at someone who is sick and she has it.
I did my weekly mail call post on gather yesterday. I didn't get much the past week but I hope you will take a look. I did get in $50 in paypal from gather. Mail Call! Week of November 23
I've also decided to have a lens of the day in my blog at squidoo. This one I actually built yesterday on Helen Steiner Rice, making my 35th lens. Helen Steiner Rice
Have a very blessed Sunday,
Marsha
Good Morning! We are having our first snow. It's huge flakes but they aren't sticking to anything. Neat to look at even if I don't like the cold.
I am heading out to the store. I need to get a few things to help with the lunch at church tomorrow that the youth are hosting and get eye drops for Jasmine. She's somehow gotten pink eye.
The online party went well enough yesterday, several came in and out throughout the day. I got 3 orders. Specials are extended through Cyber Monday when we will also be having another chat party. When I know the hours for that I will post them. More prizes will be given away. I hope to get in a few more orders. It was a lot of fun to be online and working on the orders at the same time. All 3 orders are in the mail today.
Here is one of my photo posts from gather yesterday. Thanksgiving at my son's house. I didn't end up getting everyone pictured but still got some good shots. Thanksgiving at My Son's House with Photos
It's back to work clicking on here for me...got to earn that van! I am in hopes with income tax refund and what I can earn between now and then that I will have a vehicle by the end of February.
Have a great day!
Marsha
Good Morning to my friends.
I am not at work. Jasmine complained of a sore throat and headache yesterday, then cried all night. I took her to the doctor this morning and she has strep. I'm waiting now for the girls to go to school so I can go back to bed for a bit before taking Heather to her math tutoring.
We shopped at Aldi's on the way home. I have chicken in the crockpot. Once cooked I will separate it into 3 meals. Freeze 2 portions and then add carrots and chicken gravy for tonight and serve is over some seasoned potatoes that we bought.
Gosh darn it...tried to go to the bank today and found it closed...well Happy Verteran's Day then! It also means no mail, and I just tried to call the Health dept. to change an appt and they are also closed. Hhhmmm you think that also means that the probation office is closed? That is where I take Heather for math tutoring. Nope, just called and they are closed. woo hoo! take that out of today's schedule.
I do still have to take my mom to her dr appt and then I have my bowling league tonight.
Ok, what I am sharing from gather today is my photo post on Jump Rope for Heart. It was fun. Jump Rope for Heart 2008 Photos
Have a good day,
Marsha
Thank God It's Friday...and I mean that!
Yesterday was a long exhausting day celebrating Jasmine's 12th birthday. I worked for 3 hours, then spent 3 hours cooking her meal for her, then 3 more hours of shopping with her birthday money, opening gifts and having cake and ice cream. Afterwords we came downstairs and watch Rose Red, which didn't end until midnight so we stayed up a lot later than we should have.
I am about to take my mom to the doctor this morning. We changed her appt from yesterday to not interupt Jasmine's day. Once done there, my daughter and I are going to the Mennonite church to order our food from Angel Food Ministries. After that I have no other plans except to do a couple loads of laundry and get done what I can here on the computer.
I got another lens built yesterday, this one on the online craft mall at Under The Rainbow. Please click over on the left and check it out. I won a free space at the party, so I am going to use my lens, in conjunction with gather and have a contest to give that party spot away.
I did put in photos of Jasmine's day at gather too. Jasmine's 12th Birthday--October 9, 2008 with photos
I got the rest of my photos resized and ready to share and make photo essays with this morning too. Better run for now, need to get mom for her fasting lab.
A wonderful day to all,
Marsha
Happy birthday to my Jasmine today! She is now 12 years old and hasn't been my baby anymore for some time.
We got to the store last night and bought her ice cream. We got hamburger patties and hot dogs, the buns, and the fixings for the bbq she wants to have. We still have to get her cake today. I have a potato salad recipe that I printed from a gather post that I want to try out too.
I made it to work and back yesterday with the help of Steve. Later in the day the other guys came and got the donut spare put on my van to find that it was pretty flat. They got air in it and this morning it's still up thank goodness. I hope I can get by driving on it until payday next week. Jasmine and I walked to the store and shopped while they were working on it then they came to pick us and the groceries up.
The party went well for me last night even though very few were there. I got 2 orders for Jerky and a total of 12 dish scrubbies ordered. with making the scrubbies and the hotpads and coasters that I gave as a prize I will be busy this next week. Want to check out the Jerky for yourself? It's the best around. As of the 1st of this month I am doing the Jerky only with my business. Jerky Direct
I also won another prize last night bringing me to a total of 6 for the event! And....I also was drawn to win the grand prize. The 4 days of partying ended up being a real blessing for me and will sure be a great help as I am gathering items to give for Christmas.
I am off to see if I can get in some spins over at winster. The last few days I've only been there about long enough to log in and gather up my spins for the day. I was very impressed with winster! When I cashed out for my $5 amazon, within minutes I had the code.
Take care all and wish Jasmine a Happy Birthday today.
Marsha
