Frugal Friday with Marsha--My Entries to the Quilt Show

MarshasSpot

You might be wondering what my quilt show entries and Frugal Friday have in common.
Well....if you know me then you know they do go together.
It's so very rare for me to buy anything new, and that includes fabric.
I pick up fabric at thrift shops, yard sales, estate sales, and several people "donate" fabric they aren't going to use, or don't want anymore to me.

I love making 'scrappy' quilts, so I am in heaven with my stash of fabrics.
I will tell a little bit about each picture.  I hope you enjoy. (and eventually some of these will be listed in my etsy shop)

This was a quilt top from about 1935 that I found in my mom's basement.  It' a signature quilt with church members names embroidered in it (most of them related to me).  I had a lady at church finish it for me to give my mom as a Christmas present.  She only charged me $30 to finish it.  It was in the bed turning part of the Heart of Kansas quilt show.

This is what I made for the quilt guild challenge.  I used only the fabrics they gave us to use for the front, which we paid $2.65 for.  I found the backing and batting in my stash.

This T-shirt dress was made from a pattern in a book that I received in for reviews.  The t-shirt was just in the girls' drawer and the patchwork on the bottom was part of some fabric that I paid $2 for the whole box of at an estate sale.  The lace was given to me by a lady at church.

My fractured pineapple quilt is the result of a workshop I took at the guild taught by David Duwe.
As far as classes go, this was a good one.  Only the $20 class fee was needed since nothing extra had to be bought and no special fabrics were needed.  It's made entirely from my stash of fabrics that have been given to me or that I bought second hand.

This is my Goodnight Irene quilt which was the result of a sew along with Terry's Treasures blog.  I did buy a charm pack for $5.77 from the Missouri Quilt Co. online, that is the cream colors.  The colorful squares come from a popcorn tin that was given to me full of 2 1/4 inch squares already cut.   The batting and backing fabric was given to me by a lady at church.

This mini log cabin quilt is also the result of a $20 workshop that I took at quilt guild. Again, no extra items to buy and it's made with scraps.  1 inch strips of fabric.   Again, fabrics from my stash.

And, my last entry for the quilt sho is this Rudolph story quilt.  The story book panel was given to me by a lady at church.  I cut it up and put the story into a child's quilt.  I worked with greens and reds from my stash for the sashing and borders.

I hope you enjoyed the 'show' and until next week....keep on being Frugal!

WIP Wednesday -- Wish Me Luck!

Again, I didn't post last week as I didn't have anything worked on.   I spent the week working here and there on getting entries for the quilt show put into the spreadsheet.
June 29th deadline for everyone to have their entry papers to me yet I still have them coming in and know of 5 people who are giving them to me at the guild meeting on Monday morning!
The quilt show is July 24 and 25 with set up on the 23rd.

I have 2 quilts I'm working on finishing of my own to enter into the quilt show:

Goodnight Irene from the sewalong with Terry's Treasures over a year ago.   I actually did get it quilted and the binding sewn around since taking this picture.  I've even started hand sewing the binding down.

Then there is my fractured pineapple quilt.  I worked on it last Friday at sit n' sew and had finished quilting the blocks the week before.  My favorite sewing machine broke  :(   I had to put out another one to work on it.
I'm off to my Needlers group in a bit where I will get the 2 sides sandwiched and pinned.

I can do it!  I just have to stay on it until they are done....and keep inputting data into the spreadsheet so that I have less work during the guild meeting on Monday to finish that up.  The gal that is making the labels for the quilts from my spreadsheet is out of town until Sunday night, leaving herself only 3 days to get well over 200 labels made.

WIP Wednesday--Goodnight Irene is Finally Caught Up!

I didn't get much else done....well anything else done....this past week, but my Goodnight Irene sew along project is finally caught up through May!

I have my border blocks ready to work on at sit n' sew this month and will finish the border at the quilt retreat later this month.  That will take care of keeping up with June.

I have a couple of other things put in a bag to work on at sit n' sew as well.  It's not until the 13th so I will need to see what I can work on this week.

The past few days, and the rest of this week my WIP is again sorting, decluttering, organizing and such around the house.
We are having another yard sale on Saturday.   This will be the last one at my house, so I'm trying to get as much stuff looked through as I can.
Yard sales are a lot of work no matter how you look at it.

WIP Wednesday 3/26/14

I didn't end up doing a WIP post last week.  I hadn't done anything except work on the race car quilt for my special order.  I finished the last of sewing on the binding at my Needlers group last Wednesday.
I just chose not to post since that was the only thing I could have taken a picture of for the week.

Since I didn't take that picture, I will include a picture of my daughter holding up the finished quilt.

Since then I did work on my yo-yo's a bit.  I finished making yo-yo's with the bit of fabric still left in my box.  Since I didn't add any more to my table runner, I chose not to take a picture.

Then I've been working hexagons, hexagons and more hexagons.  I knew there were hundreds of them pre-cut in my little box.   Let's try thousands....just over 2000 of them pre-cut!
I first was just sewing on them, then I decided to sort them.
I have 10 piles of 9 sets that will become flowers, plus a few more sets.
I have 3 stacks that will be used to make things like the table topper that you see in the picture that I am working on.
You can see what I have made, plus the ones that I have the cardstock pinned on to sew.

I didn't start working on my March Goodnight Sew Along until yesterday evening finally.
I sewed for hours but didn't get my 3rd row done.   I decided to work mostly on getting squares together for the 16 patch blocks instead.
Hopefully by next week I will not only have March's row done, but also Aprils 4th row on as well.
I took a picture to represent that I am at least working on it.

You can find out more about the Goodnight Irene Sew A Long by clicking the button to the right.
I have yet to do posts on my 2014 finished projects yet for the UFO/NewFO challenge.  That button is also on the right.

WIP Wednesday--Sewing While Sick

omg....I woke up Monday morning with a terrible headache.  As the day progressed I felt worse and worse.  I had brought my Brother into the living room to work on the Goodnight Irene blocks.
Once I finished those on Monday evening I traded machines and brought in my Bernetta with the walking foot.

First things first, here is a picture of my 92 log cabin blocks that I am working on.  I have the second round on and have them squared up.
A baby wipes container holds them nicely for now.

Next up is the 2 rows of the Goodnight Irene quilt with Terry's Treasures sew along.  See the button on the right for more information.
Now we come to my applique bunny quilt.   I intended to just get the 3rd row on.  But, since we were getting snowed in, and I didn't feel well, I just kept going.  I even started sewing down the binding after taking this picture.  I am really disappointed in how small this is.   I have worked on getting the bunnies done for many months.  It's barely big enough for a baby, possibly a toddler!
I may finish sewing down the binding today.  Right now I'm typing in bed.  I'm feeling pretty rough and have no clue what is wrong with me.

As a reminder here is my UFO and NewFO list for Joanie's Trendy Quilts challenge.  You can also see more information on this to the right.

WIP Wednesday 1/15/14

I have several projects going all at once, which is nothing unusual. What is unusual is that I have actually been working on all of them.

I joined the Goodnight Irene sew along with Terry's Treasures.  You can find the button on the right side bar and click to find out more.
I love that she is going slow with it.  Just 5 blocks each month for 5 month.  The 6th month is the border blocks and the 7th month is putting it together.
I only have 2 blocks done, but since I have all month, I'm not behind!

Yesterday was the monthly sewing club at church.  I am still working on this quilt that I am doing in quilt as you go.
I brought it home again, and again do hope to at least get the 3rd row put on of 7 before next month's meeting.

I am working on a total of 96 log cabin blocks.  I have found a pattern for a quilt with these scrappy log cabins.  I then have enough left over for 2 wall hangings.
Since taking this picture Monday night I have squared up the other 92 half square triangles for my middles and have one strip sewn onto some of those.

Last Wednesday in my needlers group I worked on my applique bunnies.  Today is Needlers group at the quilt shop.  I will be doing more work on the bunnies.  I have 3 more to embroider, but I think that today I will cut out my centers and backs.   I'm also going to put it together in the quilt as you go way.   I didn't take a picture last week since it's about the same as previous pictures.  I will probably take a picture after I work on them today.

I keep finding myself moving my sewing machine, cutting mat and ironing board into the kitchen or living room.  What I really need to do is get my craft room cleaned up so that I can work in there again.
I didn't get anymore organizing done as far as putting projects in bags, but I have had that on my mind.

This week I am linking up with:
