Fear No Numbers by Jose Paul Moretto--Book Review

Fear No Numbers  (How to multiply or divide and always get it right)  by Jose Paul Moretto.

ISBN  978-1-4327-8724-0

Paperback--52 pages.  Also available in ebook format.

Published by Outskirts Press, Inc

When I seen this book in my email with an offer to do a review I wanted to jump on it.   Most of you know that we are a homeschool family.  I only have one daughter left at home and she does not like math at all.  It's what we are struggling with to get enough hours for high school credit.

I received the book in the summer with full intention of making her do math with this book over the summer.  As summer goes, that just didn't work out.
We did just recently finish going through the book.

At first Jasmine hated it just like she hates all math.  Before it was over though, she loved it and was even showing others how it works when they would come over!

In Fear No Numbers we are taught 2 concepts:  The Proof of Nine and the MaXima system.

I knew there were several secrets to the number 9 in math.  I had NO idea about these systems.  I had fun learning them as well.
I recommend this book whether you are a homeschool family or if your child is struggling in school as a supplement for home.

Fear No Numbers: How to Multiply or Divide & Always Get It Right

Interview with the author:
What is your book about?
It introduces proven and fun ways to check one's products and quotients, by using the Proof of 9 System and the Maxima System.

What made you decide to write this book?
In late 2010, the media reported that the status of America's young people had fallen to 25th in math and science, compared to other countries. I want young people to have a fun addendum to what they are currently learning.

How did you get your book published? I self-published through Outskirts Press.

Who would be interested in Fear No Numbers?
Pre-teens and up, who are looking for new ways to become enthusiastic about math.

What differentiates your book from others in the same category?
The book demonstrates simplification of numbers to "single whole numbers".

Do you plan on publishing more books?
For my next book, I want to address/recount my childhood experiences during and after World War II, while staying at successive orphanages in Southern France. Though conditions were harsh; meager food, little resources for shoes and clothing, and even abuse by some of those in charge, we children also experiences times of laughter, discovery, and vindication, especially right after D-Day.

Homeschool Journal--Week 18 Busy Busy!

Hip Homeschool Hop Button Last week was the busiest week that I've had, I think ever!  I was away from home a lot more than I was home.
And, when I was at home, I was in an online party Monday and Friday from 1-10 pm.   I attended and joined the local quilt guild, so I was there all of Monday morning.  I did a lot of sewing this past week.

So, what happened with schoolwork?  Sadly, it goes by the way side.
We watched numerous educational videos  such as one in the Financial Fitness for Young Adults series, videos from the Green Matter series, and History channel videos.
We did do text work, but just one day.

It's getting closer to Christmas every day.  We've been doing a lot of wrapping gifts.  Jasmine got in some good writing time by making out the list of who we are giving to, along with what we have for them so far as we wrapped it.
She is always writing something, or drawing.  She's always looking something up online that she is interested in.

In other words, she is learning every day whether we crack out the textbooks or not.  I believe it was just this past week that I read in someone else's blog to not get stressed over what you don't get done.   There were a lot of good words of advice in that post.

Here is something else that happened last week to keep us busy.  This stray dog showed up at the door...he made himself right at home.  We've had no luck finding his owner.  We think he's been abused.  Jasmine so wants to keep him, but he is just so big!  He opens the gate and lets himself out of the back yard.  Another no no as we can't have him running the neighborhood.  Say some prayers for us that we figure out just what to do with him.  He is is sitting pretty with Jasmine:

Oh!  and something else.  We got to give Algebrator a try this past week.   Jasmine's been looking forward to it even though math is her least favorite subject.   I hope you will click over and check it out as I am offering the software download in giveaway as well.

Homeschool Journal--Thanksgiving Week

It was a great Thanksgiving with family all around. So much to be thankful for!
I'm even thankful for the schoolwork that we got done on Monday and Tuesday. Even though those 2 days included 4 videos checked out from the library. Three of the videos were from the Green Matter series. The other video was from the Life Skills series on Financial Fitness.

Here is a photo of Jasmine holding my newest granddaughter, Zelda. It was so great seeing her. She's almost 6 months old. She is growing up too fast already.

And here is a whole gaggle of people for our Thanksgiving feast. (I know of at least 3 others besides myself that is not in the picture)

That's my report for this week :)

Homeschool Journal---Yikes!!

I titled this week Yikes!! because it was not a good week for book work last week.

Sunday was the usual church service in the morning.  In the afternoon we did make cake balls, so that was home ec.

Monday was Halloween.  It was a crazy day of preparing.  Jasmine is pictured to the side in her costume.  You have to understand, she never dresses up like this, therefore a costume.  She said she was a princess and borrowed the dress from a friend.

Monday afternoon she and I finished up the cake pops for more home ec.  They are pictured below, and were part of a cookbook review I was doing.  Otherwise, she did a LOT of walking for exercise with her teenage friends in the evening.

Tuesday brought the usual morning of Bible study at church.  I can not even tell you what the rest of the day was!

Wednesday we decided it was time to clean the house....and that is exactly what we did ALL day.

Thursday was supposed to be a good "school day" but we somehow managed to only do devotions, math and English.

Friday, thank goodness, we did get in what I call a full school day.  By full school day I mean that we got to each and every subject for the day.

I'm so thankful that this week started out so much better......but that is next week's post.  Have a great week!

How Do You Handle a Busy Life and Finding Time for School?

Just how you handle the stress of having a very busy life outside the home and trying to find time for schoolwork??
Maybe the real question is how NOT to have such a busy life outside of the home?

Last week the Kansas State fair was in town. we were so busy away from home I didn't even do a bolg post here about our homeschool! But, let's go to the week before that.

We are early in to the school year and I'm already feeling major stress over lack of time at home and the lack of "book work" that is getting done. I keep weekly notes of what we get done. This year Jasmine is in high school. This means that not only am I jotting down what we do, but I am also keeping track of how much time is spent on each thing. The week of September 4th was a holiday week. Labor day meant no school for the grandkids. With them home all day, doing school work with Jasmine is virtually impossible.

Here is what I have down in my notebook: Church 60 minutes---Bible study 90 minutes--Guideposts devotions a total of 17 minutes---reading in book for history a total of 75 minutes---math 60 minutes--Home Ec reading 15 minutes---English 120 minutes----Science 22 minutes----Reading on her own 15 minutes----youth group 120 minutes, (When I type it out this way it doesn't look so bad I guess, and it is early in the school year---maybe I just need to relax??)

This past week of Sept 11 was horrible for me. We spent endless hours at the Kansas State Fair. Four of those hours was with the Headstart class, the rest on our own. I have made myself a list of different education things we did at the fair such as visiting the petting zoo, the animal birthing center etc. I've also included a lot of the walking time as PE time. But man, with those trips to the fair we only did most subjects just ONCE for the entire week (as far as working in our stack of books)

This is the week of Sept. 18---didn't start well when I have to be gone yesterday almost 5 hours with my mom to a dr. appt. I wasn't prepared to be away and all I asked Jasmine to do was to work on cleaning her room! Once home all I thought about was a nap. Wait!! I want to talk about this week next Tuesday so I'm going to stop.

This is more of a rant than anything else......a way for me to get my stress and frustrations off of my chest. However, I do want to know how many others are out there like me and having this time problem.

I am now linking up weekly (or attempting to) with:
