WIP Wednesday 9/21/16

I've mostly been working on and off when I had time on the Christmas yo-yo's.  Here is a picture of them laid out, but not in the pattern that I will put them together.

I managed a day to work on the string quilt blocks in the rose with a touch of gold colors for the soscrappy blog challenge.  Did get 5 made, but didn't get time yet to trim them.

Doesn't look like much, but at least it's something!  This next week shouldn't be near as busy as this past week for sure, so I am hoping for more to show you next week.

WIP Wednesday--Some New Projects

Yes, you read that right, with all the UFO's that I already have, I started some new projects.
I've been wanting to get started making yo-yo's with the holiday fabric pieces in my stash.
We went on a camping trip, so I packed up those to work on while there.
I started with St. Patrick's Day, but soon realized that Christmas is what will come up next so switched to working on those fabrics.

I also worked more on the colored locker hook rug.  I am having a good time working on the rug again.  I think it's moving along nicely.  I do still have to find the other 8 colors of fabrics I need.

My plans this next week are to continue to work on just these 2 projects.  Of  course, you know me, my plans change often.

WIP Wednesday -- Still Working!

I feel like I have kept a good clip going with my sewing, quilting, and crafts.
This week I made 3 new sets of coasters as a completed project.

I took the strips from the left right center game at our guild's retreat and decided to use them to put together a tutorial on how to make a jelly roll type quilt and posted it on blogbourne.
You can check out the entire post if you would like:  http://www.blogbourne.com/how-to-make-a-jelly-roll-type-quilt/
I really planned on finishing it before guild on the 29th, but that is highly doubtful.

I put together what I could of purple string blocks.  Purple is the color this month with the soscrappy blog challenge.  Unfortunately I didn't have enough strips that were long enough for the size of blocks I am making.  I ended up sewing some strips together to get these 3 made.  Looking forward to next month and the next color to move on with these.

The blue and brown yo-yo project has turned into a work-on-the-go project.  Out and about a couple places this past week I did put on some more yo-yo's.  Only 10 more to put on to finish it.  I should make it priority this week to have a finish.  Sorry for the picture being blurry.

Finally, this week I pulled out the locker hook rug that I started some time ago.  Looks like I still need 8 more colors of fabrics to find, but there is more than enough to keep me busy working on it until then.

People wonder why I don't just work on one thing until it's done.  I wonder that myself, but I just have trouble sticking to just one thing.  It's like I get bored.  At least if I do keep working as I have been for the past month, things will eventually get done.

WIP Wednesday -- Quilt Retreat Progress

The quilt retreat was lots of fun.  I feel like I got a lot done.  I finished 5 microwave hotpads and 4 sets of coasters.

I worked on the black, white with a bit of red quilt:

I'm cheating with this picture.  I actually had these 2 rows of this crazy colored quilt done before the retreat.  I didn't plan on working on it at the retreat but ended up putting on 2 more rows.  I'm saving that picture for next week's post.

I got more yo-yo's added to the table runner.  Still 34 more to put on to finish it---finally!

Since the retreat's been over on Sunday I've worked mostly on finally starting to recover my craft/sewing room.  That is not going anywhere fast, but I have gotten some boxes looked through and those things put in their specific places.

WIP Wednesday--Moving Along

Here is the progress I've made on putting the blue and brown yo-yo's together.  I made more for it as well, but these are the connected ones so far.  I have put this aside as I work on projects that must be done by the end of this month.

Here is what I have of the black and white with red quilt top sewn together so far.  As I said last week, this is put away for now and undoubtedly will not be worked on again until the quilt retreat in July.

I've gotten in a little work on the yo-yo's for the boutique at the quilt show.  The ones made with the scarf type material are done with 50 in the bag.  I'm going to have to take the suggestion of a couple of gals and make my goal of 25 of each of the other fabrics instead of 50.

Last but not least this week, I have a good start on finishing the 9 microwave hot pads for the boutique at the quilt show.  I also finished a set of these in a larger size for a special order in my etsy shop.

WIP Wednesday--Quilt Retreat

The quilt retreat was awesome as usual.  As usual, I bounced between working on different projects over the weekend.

I finished the 3 Barbie doll blankets for the girls for their birthdays.  Now I just have the pillows to stuff and the beds to make.  I put their name on each blanket.

I got a start on the 9 microwave hotpads that I am making to go in the boutique booth for our guild at the Common Threads quilt show in Wichita next month.

I worked on the Arkansas Crossroads quilt top.  What I've found is that I will need to make quite a few more half square triangles.  Now I'm deciding whether I want to make those first or finish what blocks I can and actually know how many I need to make.  I'm sure the latter would be the wiser choice.

I worked on making more blue and brown yo-yo's for the table runner order.  I laid them out only to find out just how many more of those I also need to make to finish it.

I pulled out the black and white with a touch of red blocks that I had made at the last retreat in October.  Again, what I found is just how many more I need to make to finish it.  This picture is the blocks on the board just laid out.   I did do more work after this picture--sewed more strips together, sewed some pieces for the backing, but I need to find more black and white to make more blocks too.

WIP Wednesday -- All About the Yo-Yo's

It's been a yo-yo of a week, and not just with sewing.   Looking, I see that I've not even written  a blog post since last Wednesday!

Monday at quilt guild we had a sewing day to work on items that we will be putting in our boutique booth at the Common Threads quilt show in Wichita in June.  I worked on the yo-yo's that I hope to get done by then.
I divided them up by fabric type and then packaged materials to make bags of 50 of each of the 4 fabrics.  I have not long to get them done, so wish me luck.
This picture is the ones I currently have done:

Otherwise I am working daily when I can to make the brown and blue yo-yo's for a special order.  I have a long ways to go on these too as the table runner is to be 30 x 13 inches.

I have a quilt retreat this weekend.  I have several projects already packed in my van.  I seem to not be able to work strictly on one project until it's done, so every time there is a retreat, I always bounce between working on several projects at once.  I should have several pictures to share with you next week!
