WIP Wednesday-- Just One Thing

It was a horrifically busy week this past week.  Sadly I only worked on sewing just one day.  That wouldn't have even happened if I hadn't thought to take my yo-yo's with me as I ran the church rummage sale.

So, here you go, my progress on one valance.

I must stay busy on these, and I mean daily, even if it's only adding 2 or 3 on the super busy days.

Sit n' sew is Friday at the quilt shop, so God willing I will make it there to get more work done on the Arkansas Crossroads quilt top.
My friend gave me a bit of black and white fabric so that will be a help to finish that quilt.  I need to buy just one more fat quarter and that should be all I need.

I'm looking forward to checking out the soscrappy blog to see what this month's color is.

Check Out This Disney Classic Paint-By-Number Kit

Do you like Disney Classics?  Do you like to paint-by number?
If so, then this kit is definitely for you!

This in not the ordinary paint-by-number set that you usually see either.  What I mean by that is that it's more advanced.  You don't just use one color, you have to mix the colors.  The spot might say 1,2 or 8,3,3 etc.  That way the colors are true to the actual scenes and characters.

Don't worry, the 48 page instruction book includes pictures of each color for each picture so you can match from it to make sure you have it right.
The book is also super sweet as it shows pictures from each of the Disney Classic movies as well as information and memorable moments from each one.

The kit includes 5 paint-by-number canvases and a stand for each one, 10 acrylic paints, 1 paintbrush and the Disney Classic Moments instruction and memorable moments book as shown below.

Pictures include:
Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, and The Jungle Book.

My 3 older granddaughters all love to do paint-by-number so I am waiting patiently for a time when they can be here long enough for us to sit and paint together.  The 5th one I am going to let my youngest daughter paint.  It will be lots of great time together as a family painting pictures for all to enjoy.

Disclosure:  I rec'd this kit in exchange for a review.  I was not compensated in any other way and any opinions are my own.  Post contains affiliate links.

WIP Wednesday--A Finish

I promised myself I would work on something each day no matter what.  I was doing well....until yesterday.

First let me start with a finish.  I've been wanting to do the rag quilt for a long time.  I finished a baby blanket for my grandson that is due in September.
I have more of these to make or work on, once I cut the rest of my flannel pieces.

I sewed what 1 inch strips I had ready together for a start on a locker hook runner rug.......now I just have to figure out where I put the new package of canvas that I bought!

I got some more green strips put on to my string blocks.  I'm thinking one more color and I can feel like I can start putting the blocks together.

I put together a set of 6 coasters just waiting to finish when I get my sewing machine out again.

And, I actually got a start putting the fist valance together with the yo-yo's

So, as you can see, I did get in quite a few things worked on.  Now if I can just keep it up then more and more of the projects will start to get finished.

The Hand-Stitched Surface : Slow stitching and mixed-media techniques for fabric and paper

The Hand-Stitched Surface is written by Lynn Krawczyk and 15 keep-sake quality projects that are perfect for those who want to step away from technology and embrace a quiet, meditative approach to handwork and creating art.

It offers techniques and beautiful  richly layered mixed media surfaces of both paper and fabric.
The book starts with an overview of tools and supplies.  This is followed by a section of stitching essentials which covers a range of basic stitches and how they can be modified.  You will learn the effects of mixing thread weights, unique ways to create patterns, how to explore color and tips and tricks on improvisational stitching.

Right away I see 2 projects that I look forward to doing----the Deconstructed Needle Book and the Doodle Love Lap Quilt.

In the Paper Projects section I found 2 things that my middle daughter will enjoy making-- the Paper Succulent Garden and the Origami Candy Catcher.

The back of the book includes templates for the projects that need those.  It's a comprehensive book with lots of illustrations for each step.  Whether you are a beginner crafter/sewer or an experienced one, there are projects for everyone.  Any of the projects would make great gifts as well.

Disclosure:   I rec'd a copy of the book for the purpose of this review.  I was not compensated in any other way and any opinions are my own.  Post contains affiliate links.

WIP Wednesday -- Cutting and Cutting

I had hoped to get my sewing machine out this past week, but it didn't happen.
I went into my room and started bringing out fabrics and batting to cut for the string blocks.  I ended up bringing out flannels for a couple of blankets I want to start too.

I cut what I needed then what was left of the piece of fabric I cut as well for other projects.
You can see that I cut 10 inch solid colors.  They are for the back of a quilt that needs to be finished.
I cut some 1 inch strips for a locker hook runner rug that I want to start.
I cut strips for another toothbrush rug.
I have a stack of 5 inch squares to add to my 5 inch stash.
I have both 7 inch and 10 inch flannel squares for a start on those blankets.
And....I have my stack of green strips with batting and backing for my string blocks.

Wish me luck that I make my goal of getting out my sewing machine today and working on these projects!!
