Welcome to the "Sew Pretty T-Shirt Dresses" blog tour, featuring finished projects and giveaways from Sweet Seams' latest book. The designers over at NYC-based Sweet Seams wanted to create a collection of fast, fun, and inexpensive dresses to make for their daughters, granddaughters, nieces and god-daughters. The dresses, which all start with a simple T-shirt, were inspired by all the little girls in their lives who feel special in projects that were made especially for them. Crafters can upcycle any T-shirt, maybe even an old favorite that doesn't quite have the same fit anymore or one that's stained near the hem. With 28 very different styles to choose from, anyone can find a design that fits the little girl in their own life.
I am thrilled to be able to take part in the Sew Pretty blog tour.
When I rec'd the email asking if I would do a book review of Sew Pretty T-Shirt Dresses, my first thought was making dresses for all 4 of my granddaughters.
When I rec'd a second email asking if I would take part in the blog tour, of course I said yes.
I love this book! I have made one dress so far. This is the Patchwork of Art design. The first photo is the dress. The second photo is my granddaughter, Willo, wearing the dress. She wore it to church and showed it off. I had her take it off after church, at which time she informed me that I was to make sure to get it washed. She wanted to wear it the following Sunday as well.
I have built a squidoo lens with my full review as well as the press release of Sew Pretty T-Shirt Dresses.....and photos featuring some of the other designs in the book. I hope you will click HERE and check it out.
Here is the complete schedule for the blog tour. I do hope you will check them all out. Come back day by day until tour end!
Now for the fun part! How would you like to win your own copy of Sew Pretty T-Shirt Dresses? Just enter using the rafflecopter form below.
Disclosure: Sixth&Spring Books gave me the information and I received the book from Soho Publishing Co. for the purpose of this blog tour/review/giveaway. I was not compensated in any other way, and any opinions are my own.

A lifelong passion for music and years of singing in a variety of musical styles are behind the success of Gina Zavalis and the recent release of her debut single "In Your Eyes."
Zavalis, a well-seasoned performer, as her faithful fans can vouch, is breaking through industry barriers with the recent release of her debut single, “In Your Eyes.” Now, she is working on her solo music career with producer Doug Beiden, who has worked with artists Jennifer Paige, Michael Sweet (Stryper), Mandisa and TV shows Secret Millionaire (ABC), Suns Of Guns, Flying Wild Alaska (Discovery), Million Dollar Money Drop (FOX) Find My Family (ABC), Coming Home, Celebrity Wife Swap, Picker Sisters. Zavalis works with manager Scott McReynolds, who has developed the career of CCM artist Britt Nicole & consults for Tom Jackson. Zavalis is also collaborating with Los Angeles composer/orchestrator/conductor Bob Barrett, who orchestrates projects for Disney and has scored films such as GARBO IN HOLLYWOOD & ALL OF ME: The Billie Holiday Lester Young Encounters. Barrett has arranged for Diana Ross, Pat Benatar, Joe Cocker, Bill Medley, Chita Rivera, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations & Maureen McGovern. Zavalis is traveling between New York City, Nashville and Los Angeles to record a number of new songs. Zavalis is also signed with LaFamos PR and Branding in Hollywood.
In a nationally televised event at Yankee Stadium to a sold out crowd, Zavalis sang the National Anthem. Tom Seaver is quoted as saying, “Wow, what a voice, that’s the best we heard all year!”
Zavalis’ self-titled EP is filled with heartfelt lyrics, alongside her intriguing sound and dynamic, powerhouse vocals showcasing her three + octave range. Zavalis is already being compared to Sarah Brightman, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and Adele.
My review: Gina Zavalis' self titled album contains just 5 songs: In Your Eyes Reach for Me I am Here Waiting As I Give My Heart
I find the music to be what I call easy listening. The tunes are laid back and mellow. She has a wonderful singing voice. Her tones seemed to be just perfect to my ears.
Would like a chance to win Gina Zavalis' self titled debut album? Just enter using the rafflecopter form below.
Disclaimer: I received the album download from LaFamos and information page for the purpose of this review. LaFamos is supplying the physical CD for the winner of the giveaway. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions are my own.
I am taking part in the Valentine's Day giveaway that DnBuster is hosting on her blog. There are still some open slots if you are interested in joining in. These are a great way to get followers to your own blog. The prizes are generous in this one too!
My review: Pictured above are the 2 bottles of Torani Gourmet Syrups that I was sent to try and review as part of the shespeaks website. I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my daughter is.I knew she would delve into the flavors right away. She loved the Salted Caramel flavor straight from the bottle. Gingerbread from the bottle, no LOL It had too strong of a flavor. She used the Salted Caramel in iced coffee. My daughters boyfriend also tried the Salted Caramel in his hot coffee. He enjoyed it at first but then said the salt flavor took over.
Along with the 2 bottles of Torani Gourmet Syrups came a recipe booklet. Since I am not a coffee drinker and know nothing about flavored coffee drinks, I was glad to see recipes for other drinks as well. Two that I really want to try are: Torani Cherry Lime Soda and Electric Blue Lemonade.
I did a search of my zip code to see where in my area I can buy the Torani Gourmet Syrups. I found the only place in my area is a bulk foods store in the Amish/Mennonite community. I do look forward to a trip to the store to try some other flavors.

Starr’s sixth album, the much anticipated “The World Will Follow,” is
her most electrifying to date. Starr’s trademark beautiful haunting
vocals, poetic lyrics, flat-picking guitar playing and moving piano
pieces are backed by the electric and lap steel guitar work of seasoned
player/producer Jesse Seibenberg (of Supertramp) and by the synth
guitars of engineer/producer Jordan Richter (Sixpence None the Richer,
Jars of Clay). For several months, the first single, “Little Bird,” sat
at the top of the ReverbNation charts for California.
Over a decade and six albums later, the resulting music reflects not
only the ambiance and dynamics of her classical upbringing but has
garnered comparisons to The Cranberries, Joni Mitchell, and Tori Amos.
As a traveler of the inner world, Starr’s particular gift is in turning
difficult subject matter into heartfelt, sometimes haunting, and always
beautiful compositions. Culturespill Magazine states: “Andi Starr hits the right notes: the notes that hurt, the notes that know you, the notes that make you meet yourself.”
Album Tracks:
The World Will Follow
Little Bird
Already Gold
A Song that Never Dies
Delilah's Response
el amore (Song for Sylvia)
Fake Plastic Trees
Ticket Taker
Happy Ballad
The World Will Follow (acoustic version)
Water Rising
When I first listened to this album my first thought was this would be good music to sit and relax to at home--alone or with company. To me, the songs are ballads.
Enjoy this video of Already Gold:
I enjoyed listening to the album again and again.

From the moment he steps on stage, it’s clear that Sir Castanon is not the typical young pop artist.
Inspired by the unapologetic avant garde of Lady Gaga and the showmanship of Adam Lambert, Sir Castanon feels strongly about having the element of theater in his music. Originally from Denver, CO, the 14 year-old performer began his professional music career at age 11, writing songs and developing his dramatic image. In addition to his songwriting skills and vocal prowess, he also personally designs his own stage attire stage attire.
As he puts it, “Anybody can be a singer if they wanted to, but I try my best to be a true artist.”
On his debut album Puppeteer, released in December 2010, Sir Castanon showcases his keen dance-pop sensibilities on such standouts as “Chandelier” and title track, which is also the lead single and video. “Puppeteer” was also nominated for Pop Single of the Year at the 2011 LA Music Awards, and Sir Castanon himself is a nominee for Pop Artist of the Year.
Sir Castanon now calls Los Angeles home and divides his time between music and his successful acting career. He starred in the hit comedy Click alongside Adam Sandler, and he has extensive TV credits, including NCIS, ER and Crossing Jordan. His performances in Ghost Whisperer as well as Comanche Moon with Val Kilmer earned him two coveted Young Artist Awards.
In spring 2011, Sir Castanon joined forces with over 40 teen celebrities to record "If the Earth Could Speak,” raising funds to aid the children of Japan. The music video was directed by "We Are the World" Grammy winning director, Tom Trbvovich. The song was written and produced by multi-platinum music producers Drew Lane and Evelyn Vaccaro.
Combining undeniable pop hooks with a flair for the dramatic, Sir Castanon is nothing short of a household name in the making.
Song titles on the Puppeteer album include:
Chandelier
Shadow Dancing
Puppeteer
Cry Baby
You Got It
Graduate
Make My Day
Let Go
Neon and
Ghost
My review:
I was surprised after listening to some of the songs to find out that Sir Castanon is just 14 yrs old. And barely too as he just turned 14 in August. I was also surprised to read about all of his acting roles on various tv shows.
I really enjoyed the pop music on this cd. I can't even pick out a favorite song. They all have good beats to them. I see him as a rising star for sure.
I have a daughter who will be 15 next month. I pulled her in to the room to listen to the songs. She says they are ok, and some of them she really did like like You Got It and Make My Day. She tells me a lot of her friends are in to this type of music.
Check out this video of Shadow Dancing:
Disclaimer: LaFamos PR send me a download of the album for the purpose of my review. I was not compensated in any other way for the review. Any opinions given are my own. LaFamos is providing the winner of the giveaway with a physical copy of the CD.
Darius Lux's official website states that his music is soulful, thoughtful, rockin', urban, and pop. I can see all of this in the 6 songs on his album Time is Now.
The 6 songs include:
No Problem
Way That It Goes
Best Day
What I Feel
Time is Now and
World Keeps on Turnin' Live
If I have to pick a favorite of the six I will choose World Keep on Turnin', but all of them have a good beat and are enjoyable to listen to.
If you live in the Los Angeles area you can RSVP for a free live show on Sept. 30, 2011 at the Good Hurt Club. They will also be performing in Northern California on October 2, 2011 at the Castro Street fair at 2 pm on the Red Rock stage.

Be sure to check out my Mary Bragg Tattoos and Bruises CD giveaway under the review/giveaways page. It ends this evening (7/7/11) and has very few entries.
I want to start out by saying that I am not a fan of country music, however, I love this album! It sure made me re-think. There have always been some country songs that I really liked--heck, even know all the lyrics too.
I have listened to, and enjoyed, this album many times since receiving it for review.
Song list:
1. How and Why
2. When Your Heart Belongs To Another
3. Tattoos and Bruises
4. Leave Tonight
5. Hanging On The Wheel
6. The General
7. Gone
8. Wildflower
9. Morning Lover
10. Hurricane
CD includes insert with lyrics to all 10 songs. I love when they come with the lyrics so that I can follow along and learn the words quicker.
Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, singer-songwriter Mary Bragg lived in a number of Southern musical capitals—Athens, Atlanta, Nashville—before settling in New York in 2004. Her music is consequently a seamless hybrid of her Southern Americana roots and the downtown New York singer-songwriter community of which she has become a key member. Lee Alexander, one of the pioneers of this scene, produced Bragg’s forthcoming album, Tattoos and Bruises, and together they recruited a number of their friends and frequent collaborators to contribute. Having led a highly successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the recording, Bragg will release it June 7.
Writing for Tattoos and Bruises began in late 2008, continued during a residency at New York City’s great singer-songwriter launching pad, The Living Room, and was completed just moments before the final tracks were recorded. Writing or co-writing all ten of the album’s songs, Bragg invited Alexander to co-write four of them, while three more of her favorite songwriters, Adam Levy (another longtime collaborator of Norah Jones and Amos Lee), Colin McGrath, and her bassist/husband, Jimmy Sullivan, made additional co-writing contributions. The ten tracks that comprise the final album were recorded and mixed over 14 days at Jones’ East Village studio, The Coop, with Tom Schick (Wilco, Rufus Wainwright) engineering and co-mixing.
Backing Bragg on the album is the same accomplished band of players who perform in her live shows, including Rich Hinman, Steve Elliot and Adam Levy (guitars), Jordan Perlson and
Brian Wolfe (drums), Jimmy Sullivan (bass), Mike Cassedy (piano, organ) and Marika Hughes (cello).
While she has drawn comparisons to Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin—and does indeed bear some stylistic resemblances to them—Bragg comfortably inhabits her unique fusion of American musical forms on Tattoos and Bruises: folk, rock, pop, and country. The album’s title track reveals the level of maturity she has reached as a songwriter and performer: the song not only showcases her voice, but is also a study in economy and restraint. The material ranges in mood, from the surrender of “How and Why,” to the upbeat, flirtatious shuffle of “When Your Heart Belongs to Another.”
Tattoos and Bruises is Bragg’s third studio album. It follows Sugar (2007), which was produced by Darius Jones. Sugar has earned Bragg several industry nods including an Honorable Mention in the International Songwriting Competition and feature placements in the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (Emerging Artists Showcase) and the Wildflower! Festival, where she was a finalist in the Performing Songwriter Competition.
Bragg is especially beloved for her live performances. In addition to a record release residency at The Living Room in June, she will tour the U.S. in support of the album. An itinerary will be announced soon.

When I was contacted by Wilks PR and Alpha Books with the opportunity to review and do a giveaway of the book You Can Do A Graphic Novel by Barbara Slate, I was so excited! My teen age daughter is really into reading graphic novels, and she loves to draw as well. I immediately went and told her the news that we were getting the book after shooting back an email with my address and my excitement.
When the book came in the mail, she hastily opened it and started reading immediately. It's a cool book! From what I can see, nothing is left out in teaching you how to draw your own graphic novel. This book has now become a part of Jasmine's homeschooling for art.
Chapters include: Your Story Draw, Draw, Draw The Creative Process The Creative Block Creating Characters The Plotline Writing Layout Finishes Some Students' Work The "Biz" and a glossary. 187 pages total.
It so happened that the night after getting the book in the mail, my middle daughter went in to labor. She was scheduled to go in to the hospital the following morning early so I already had a "hospital bag" packed for my daughter, her 8 yr old step son, and me. I had made sure to pack You Can Do A Graphic Novel in the bag, along with some card stock and paper. It didn't take my daughters 8 yr old step son long to discover the book in the bag. He immediately started reading through it. He asked for paper and couldn't wait to get started on his own book. Here is a photo of his first page. He is very proud of it, and was showing everyone he could.
About the Author:
Barbara Slate has done it all. Her first character, Ms. Liz, appeared on millions of greeting cards, in a regular comic strip for Cosmopolitan magazine, as a spokesperson for Dupont's Lycra and as the star in a series of animated segments on NBC's Today Show. Her big break in comics came when she created Angel Love for DC Comics. From there, she created, wrote and drew Yuppies from Hell, and Sweet XVI for Marvel and put her own spin on the Disney classics Beauty and the Beast,Pocahontas, Archie's Betty and Veronica, and Mattel's Barbie. Barbara's art has been exhibited in many galleries and reviewed by The New York Times. She is profiled in the seminal work A Century of Women Cartoonists. Stan Lee, Chairman, POW! Entertainment and Chairman Emeritus, Marvel Entertainment, calls Barbara "titanically talented." She is currently busy being a mom, doing a graphic novel titled, I Got Married and Other Mistakes, and teaching. Her website is barbaraslate.com.
