Star Wars Fans Will Love the Star Wars Felt Craft Kit

Whether you are a Star Wars fan or you know someone who is, everyone will fall in love with this Star Wars Felt crafting kit!!

Make the 10 collectible felt characters for yourself or give them as a gift.  Give the kit to a Star Wars fan....that's what I'm doing.  My grandson has a birthday today.  Not only does he love Star Wars, but he also loves being creative.  I can't wait to see them once he's done.

The kit includes everything you need to make the 10 figures---Die cut templates, sheets of felt, needle, embroidery floss and the stuffing.
The 48 page instruction book not only includes clear instructions on how to make them, but also awesome real pictures of each character as well.

Who will you be buying the kit for?

Disclosure:  I rec'd the kit for the purpose of this review.  I was not compensated in any other way and any opinions are my own.  Post contains affiliate links.

The Hand-Stitched Surface : Slow stitching and mixed-media techniques for fabric and paper

The Hand-Stitched Surface is written by Lynn Krawczyk and 15 keep-sake quality projects that are perfect for those who want to step away from technology and embrace a quiet, meditative approach to handwork and creating art.

It offers techniques and beautiful  richly layered mixed media surfaces of both paper and fabric.
The book starts with an overview of tools and supplies.  This is followed by a section of stitching essentials which covers a range of basic stitches and how they can be modified.  You will learn the effects of mixing thread weights, unique ways to create patterns, how to explore color and tips and tricks on improvisational stitching.

Right away I see 2 projects that I look forward to doing----the Deconstructed Needle Book and the Doodle Love Lap Quilt.

In the Paper Projects section I found 2 things that my middle daughter will enjoy making-- the Paper Succulent Garden and the Origami Candy Catcher.

The back of the book includes templates for the projects that need those.  It's a comprehensive book with lots of illustrations for each step.  Whether you are a beginner crafter/sewer or an experienced one, there are projects for everyone.  Any of the projects would make great gifts as well.

WIP Wednesday -- Cutting and Cutting

I had hoped to get my sewing machine out this past week, but it didn't happen.
I went into my room and started bringing out fabrics and batting to cut for the string blocks.  I ended up bringing out flannels for a couple of blankets I want to start too.

I cut what I needed then what was left of the piece of fabric I cut as well for other projects.
You can see that I cut 10 inch solid colors.  They are for the back of a quilt that needs to be finished.
I cut some 1 inch strips for a locker hook runner rug that I want to start.
I cut strips for another toothbrush rug.
I have a stack of 5 inch squares to add to my 5 inch stash.
I have both 7 inch and 10 inch flannel squares for a start on those blankets.
And....I have my stack of green strips with batting and backing for my string blocks.

Wish me luck that I make my goal of getting out my sewing machine today and working on these projects!!

Greece: Chicken Thighs with Lemon Dressing and Lentil Salad

Serves 2

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

•       1 lb chicken thighs

•       1/4 cup lentils

•       1 red bell pepper

•       1 red onion

•       1 zuchini

•       4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

•       2 tsp honey

•       1 tablespoon lemon juice

•       1/4 cup flour

•       12 cherry tomatoes (1/2 pint)

•       1 oz sliced black olives

Directions:

1.      Place 1/4 cup lentils in a small pot with 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil, and then reduce to simmer for 18-20 minutes. Then remove from heat and set aside.

2.      Chop the zucchini, red onion and red bell pepper into small, bite sized pieces.

3.      Heat 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil in a large pan on high heat. Add the chopped vegetables and toss for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

4.      For the vinaigrette: In a bowl, mix 2 tsp honey, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil.

5.      In a medium pan, heat 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil on medium-high heat. Coat the chicken in flour, and shake to remove excess. Then cook in pan for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Then add half of the vinaigrette, and cook for approximately 6-8 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through.

6.      Mix the lentils with cooked vegetables and 1 oz sliced black olives. Add remaining vinaigrette and mix well. Serve with cooked chicken. Enjoy!

Italy: Chicken Parmesan with Fresh Basil Tomato Sauce and Polenta

Serves 2

Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

•       1lb chicken tenders

•       1 cup panko breadcrumbs

•       1 cup flour

•       2 eggs

•       6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

•       1/4 cup cornmeal

•       1/4 cup parmesan cheese

•       12 cherry tomatoes (1/2 pint)

•       2 tablespoons of fresh basil, chiffonade

Directions:

1.      For the polenta: Bring small pot filled with 1 cup of water to boil. Slowly add 1/4 cup cornmeal while stirring, until mixed well. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes while stirring occasionally (every 5 minutes).

2.      Set up breading station with 3 shallow dishes: On dish 1: place 1/4 cup flour; on dish 2: whip 2 eggs; and on dish 3: spread 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. To bread the chicken: pat dry with a paper towel and coat each tender in flour, shaking to remove excess. Then dip in egg, making sure it covers completely, and then coat in breadcrumbs. Press down gently to adhere.

3.      Heat 6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a large pan. Place the breaded chicken tenders in the pan and heat for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

4.      Meanwhile, cut the basil into a chiffonade: stack the leaves and roll them, and then thinly slice.

5.      After removing the chicken, add to the hot pan 12 cherry tomatoes and 2 tablespoons basil chiffonade. Toss for 1-2 minutes, until the tomato skins blister.

6.      For the polenta: Now mix in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese. (Optional: add 1-2 tablespoons of water to reach desired thickness.)

7.      Serve each plate with the chicken on a bed of polenta, topped with fresh basil tomato sauce. Enjoy!

WIP Wednesday -- 50 Shades of Green

Ha ha!  I never get done in a week what I would like to, that is for sure.

I did manage to at least get through my scrap bag and pull out green for this month's scrap color with the soscrappy blog.  Literally though, I do think I have at least 50 different green fabrics if not more.

I did my frog stitching and started hand quilting around the edges of the Charming Stars quilt.  I really had hoped to have this done by the 22nd for show and share at quilt guild, but it's not looking very likely.

I cut more felt circles for my penny rug.  I even managed to find the lost bag of circles.  Not quite all of my circles in the picture, and I also have lots of them pinned to the blanket as well.  So anxious to get so many projects done.

Manage Your Financial Life by Nancy Doyle Review and Giveaway

The full title is Manage Your Financial Life:  A Thoughtful, Organized Approach for Women and it published by The Doyle Group.

The author, Nancy Doyle has 30 years of experience in wealth management, finance, investments, and consulting.  She believes that when it comes to money, independence and objectivity are essential.  She neither works for nor partnered with any financial firms.  She received her MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.  She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Managing Your Financial Life is a debut book for Nancy Doyle.  It addresses a common problem for most women--their financial lives have become complex.  Many women want to have more knowledge regarding their financial affairs, but don't know where to start.

The book is written in 4 parts and 13 chapters and also includes a Preface and Introduction.
Most prefaces and introductions are short, but Doyle's are 19 pages total, leaving nothing out on her reasons and purpose for the book.

Part 1 will help you get organized.  Here is where I really need help, and definitely a first step to getting your finances in order.

Part 2 is how to analyze your financial profile.  Budgeting might be the short word for it as she goes into detail on creating your financial statement, evaluating your cash flow, evaluating your debt, a plan to pay off debt and much more.

Parts 3 and 4 are all about investing.  These are the parts that interest me the most.  Over the years I have wanted to invest.  I've read many books and articles on the subject and always leave confused.  I really like how she explains the terms in simple English.  Each term that you need to know is even in bold as you read.

I appreciate that the book is written to be geared towards women, but I can see that any man would also gain from the book.  I know I intend to read many parts of it out loud with my husband, even though I also intend to use the book for myself to learn how to invest the little that I earn for the future.

To find out more about the book you can visit:  http://manageyourfinanciallife.com/
To read more about the author visit: http://manageyourfinanciallife.com/about

You may purchase the book from amazon:

WIP Wednesday -- At Least Something Done

I got the yo-yo's back out after putting them to the side too long.  I'm sad that I didn't keep up with my 365 of making 3 each day of the year.
I made several then I bagged them by colors and counted them.   My plan had been to start putting them together but forgot to put in my paper with the measurements that I need and a measuring tape.  Both are now in my box.  The picture is before I separated them, so next week I will show that.

I went to a bunch of yard sales over the weekend and found some needed items for projects.  One of those was a large piece of red felt for my penny rug.  I got to thinking that now it's warmer out and soon hot and I won't want to work on it.  However, I get cold when the air conditioner comes on, so that blanket I am sewing them too will come in handy  LOL
I can't find where I put the bag of extra circles I had cut, but while looking I found a stack of felt.  I'm busy getting more circles cut so that I can start sewing them together and then on to the blanket.

That's all I have to report for this week.  I'm itchin' to be stitchin' so working to find more sewing time!
