WIP Wednesday--Workshop with Darcy Ashton

When does my life slow down to a slow crawl?  I am saying now, once Halloween is over, but just as before, it will be something else next that keeps me busy.

This past week I worked a lot on the granny squares, which I will talk more about later.  I cut strips for 2 more toothbrush rugs.  I finished a toothbrush rug that I started many months ago.
I cut out, or almost have them cut out, 5 baby bibs.

The last couple of days I've been getting treat bags made up for the trunk or treat at our church this evening.  I'm a Saline Ambassador so the bags are filled with a coloring sheet, 2 crayons, Kando wipes info sheet with coupon, Boogie Wipes sample with coupon, my business card and a Dum Dum pop.

Monday was our monthly quilt guild meeting.  Our guest speaker was Darcy Ashton.  I'm sure most of you quilters know who she is by her design books for hand applique.  In the afternoon I attended her workshop where she taught us her technique of hand applique.  She choose to have us all do the same bunny.  She is doing it and making lots of them into a quilt.  I do plan to do the same.  In fact, you know me, when I learn something new, that's all I really want to work on.  However, I am trying to be "good" and not really start too much in to it.
I do, however, want to get some materials cut and ready and into a ziplock bag that I will carry in my tote.  This is hand work so it can be on the go work.....something to pull out while I wait for others.
Here is what I got done with the one bunny before time was up for the workshop:
Now back to the granny a day 2012 challenge blanket.  I do have all of my granny squares made.  I'm itching to get the blanket done and on our bed, especially now with the cold nights.  What I have pictured today is my pile of granny squares, although I have 16 more in my craft room that I had put aside for the front of the matching pillow.  Next week I will have the photo of the blanket on the correct day.

WIP Wednesday 3/28/12--Lots of Sewing!

I did lots of sewing this past week!  I finished up the last 2 walker bags for the community project with quilt guild.  I turned those in at guild Monday.  Our guild has made a total of about 60 bags and the cancer project is in awe.

I also finished up the scrappy quilt top for sewing club at church.  I plan to share a photo of it in the TGIFF post this week.  If you remember, my camera is with my daughter in England so I wasn't able to take any pictures this last week.  Actually, right now she is just under 3 hours from landing in the Houston airport, where they will catch another plane in to Wichita and be home---today!  I'm so anxious to get her home and hear all about the trip.  Only communication for 8 days has been status and pictures on the youth ministers facebook page.

My only picture this week is my progress in the Granny a Day 2012 challenge.  I am worked ahead....I can't help it!  I actually would like to finish the blanket now that I have a good start on it.  This picture is up to today, March 28, 2012---Day 88.

If you want to see the scrappy quilt top complete, be on the look out for my Friday post.  Hopefully she's not lost my camera while she was away!  I hope she has tons of pictures from England on that memory card.

WIP Wednesday 3/7/12--Project List

I'm pasting here what I posted last night on sidetick about my crafting:

Current projects:
Quilt with flowered materials that will go up for sale in my etsy store.
Scrappy quilt top for sewing club at church.
Walker bags for the community project with quilt guild.
I did complete one walker bag and it looks very nice. I have 3 more to make. I'm planning on going to the sit and sew at the local quilt shop from 6-9 Friday evening and take the walker bags to work on.
I generally only work on the scrappy quilt on Sunday's while Jasmine spends the afternoon and part of the evening at her boyfriends house.
Other sewing time goes to the flower quilt---which is taking forever to get done!

Other projects:
Granny square blanket that I am putting together with the Granny A Day challenge that the Hooked! blog has put on for 2012.
Baby blocks that I am making with plastic canvas. I am making 3 sets of 2 and I am almost done filling in the 36 squares needed.
Cross magnets. I have the materials out and do have a couple sets of 3 ready to post into my etsy shop.
Toothbrush rug---I finally have this rug out again after 3 weeks (or maybe more) of not working on it. I have 25 or so more strips to put in and it will be done and listed in my etsy shop.

Projects not started:
TONS of dish scrubbies to make! I had bought a yard of each color of netting and then my daughter gave me several yards of netting in red, green and white. We are talking at least 100 scrubbies worth, if not more.
Two tablerunners. One I actually have the material cut and pinned so it should be on the list above.
3 sets of folded hotpads---I guess these should also be listed above because the material is cut and all ready for sewing.
Another set of the double thick crocheted hotpads and coasters in a burgandy (maroon) color. These are actually sort of started too as I found 2 coasters started in the color.
I'm sure there is even more! Steve has promised to buy me a 9 cubby storage unit to get me a good start at organizing my craft room once the income tax refund comes in.
So....now....how do I find the time I want to craft, and still get the house clean and my other online things done...not to mention all the things that I do outside the home?

Now, here are my photos---the scrappy quilt is moving right along---another row on my flower quilt and day 66 of the granny square blanket:

WIP Wednesday 2/22/12--The Projects Roll On

It's been a busy Wednesday so I am late getting my post up this week.

I had no progress again on either the toothbrush rug or the cross magnets.
I did fill in a few more squares for the baby blocks.  I tried to work on the walker bags for quilt guild.  I did cut out the material for the other 3 bags.  I read the instructions 3 or 4 times and I'm confused.  I took the bag I started and the instructions to sewing club yesterday but my friend couldn't really tell me what my next step is.  She's told me to show up at the sit and sew tomorrow morning at the senior center.  She said there will be quite a few ladies there from guild that can probably show me what to do.  I sure hope so!  We have another month to get them done for the community project.

So...I did some more work on the scrappy quilt for sewing club at church.  It's not moving along very fast, but is moving along.

I ripped out my sewing and re-did the second row on the quilt I am working on.  I made just over enough squares for the next row too.
We met at church for sewing club again.  I snuck in this photo of the gals working on finishing up the tying on a quilt.  I cut around the edges while they worked.  I also cut and pinned the binding on another quilt we had already tied.  Then, I just worked a bit putting the diagonal lines on some of the squares for the scrappy quilt above.  I finally have most all of the sewing lines drawn.
And, here is my granny square challenge blanket for day 53.  I'm sure enjoying working on this, but anxious for it to be larger.  I hope that each week you can see it getting larger even though it's just 7 squares larger each week.
I think that's it for this week's report.  I am linking up with the following blogs:

WIP Wednesday---See Inside :)

Let's see--
No progress on the cross magnets.
No progress on the toothbrush rug.
No progress on the walker bags for the quilt guild community project.
I did get a few more squares filled for the baby blocks, but didn't take a photo.  I figured I would wait on taking a picture until I have one of the blocks completed.

OMG! You won't believe that I actually did some work on the scrappy quilt top for church.  Funny thing is that hubby and I were watching movies on tv at the same time.  I was pinning and marking during the movie and on commercials I was heading in to the craft room for a few minutes of sewing and/or ironing.  I'm surprised at just how far I did get, even though it's only a beginning on the whole top.
I did get another row complete on the other quilt I've been working on.  I went ahead and took a photo, however, I need to rip out the row and pin it this time before sewing.  The lines didn't line up right....how aggravating.

I am hosting the TGIFF! Blog hop this Friday and I am hoping to have a finish.  It looks like my finish will end up being this table runner.  I have procrastinated on getting going on the hand stitching for the top of this.  I'm over half way done with it now so wish me luck on the finish in time for my post.  I just took a picture of how I am stitching it---the old use a glass to draw a circle method.
Last but not least on my list for this week is the granny square blanket that I am working on for the Granny a Day 2012 Challenge.  I've still been crocheting more granny squares here and there even though I am way ahead on that part.  In sewing on one a day it's just 7 each week, but it is getting bigger.  I'm working one down one day and one over the next day until I get the side as long as I want it to be.  Just the way I work...have to be a little different.  This is day 46.

WIP Wednesday--Feels Like No Progress

No progress on my cross magnets.
No progress on the scrappy quilt for church other than drawing some of the lines on some of the larger squares.

I only made it into my craft room to sew on my quilt once---hoping to get in there again this evening.   I still don't know if I have enough material to make it as large as I wanted.  No problem on the strips as you can see from the picture, the problem is the material I am using in between the squares and for the binding.

We met again for sewing club at church.  This is the 3rd of these polyester tops that we now have tied.  We have just one left to go.  I have to admit that I am thankful that we are taking next week off from working since it's Valentine's Day.

I did get in some work on my baby blocks.  I have more squares complete and the yarn ready for what I need of the rest to make 6 blocks.  I'm taking these mostly with me in my tote to work on while out and about.
Last but not least, we are at day 39 of the Granny a Day challenge.  I have several squares worked ahead and just adding one on to my blanket each day.  I'm working 1 up and the next day 1 across for now until I get it the length that I want.  You can't quite see all of the squares in the photo.  It is just a little wider than our king size bed.

WIP Wednesday--New Blog Page Announcement and Lots of Projects!

Before I start sharing the many projects that I have going, I want to introduce my new blog page.  It's entitled Hand Made in 2012 (linky).   Since I have vowed that the majority of my gifts this year will be hand made, either by me, or bought from someone else, I want LOTS of ideas and instructions.
This page is for any link, not just blog posts.  If you have instructions on how to make things, even food that makes good gift, link it up!  If you have a shop online such as etsy where you sell your handmade items link it up! If you do squidoo lenses on handmade gifts, either that you've made, or instructions, link them up!  If you write anywhere online pertaining to home made items such as hubpages, link them up!
I'm in hopes of there being hundreds of link ups before this year is over.  The page has a great start already.

Now on to my projects.  I told my husband at the start of the year that I really need to do one project at  a time.  I"m just not that kind of gal--seems I get bored with just one thing at a time.  As far as sewing I don't sit behind the sewing machine all day---even though there are days that I would love to.
Without further ado, here are my current projects!
First, here is the flower fabric quilt I am still working on.  I do finally have the top sewn, now to get the back and middle and the rest done.
I have a good start one a toothbrush rug in what I am calling neutral colors.
This is the top I am working on for sewing club at church.  I have worked more on it today in hopes of getting it done by Friday.  I want to move on to my next top project at home.
Still working on using up yarn stash making double thick hot pads--and using up plastic canvas stash to make matching coasters for the sets.  This week is purple.
The take-along bag.  This bag is usually in my tote.  This way I can work on coasters, cross magnets, and baby blocks while I am out and about if I want.  This bag has sorely been ignored though.  It now also holds some of the yarn that I am using for the Granny Square a Day in 2012 challenge.
Here is my progress on the Granny Square a Day challenge as of January 10.    I am sewing them together as I get them done.  I'm also debating on going ahead on my trimming as well.  What I am thinking for the trim is all the small balls of variegated yarn I have in my stash.  Do you think that would look ok?  There are going to be lots of colors in the squares so thought the variegated yarn might be cool too.  Click below on the button if you want to know more about the challenge.

Last but not least is the quilt top that I am working on at sewing club at church.  If you recall from past posts, I originally sewed the squares at home.  This project has been going on for awhile.....I doubt I finish it next month.  The one lady is trying to up my skills by teaching me to make this scrappy quilt.  I spent a lot of sewing club time yesterday getting squares cut.  I plan on having a report of progress on it with next weeks post.
