WIP Wednesday--Bunny Blocks and Granny Squares

It's been a week of bunny blocks and granny squares.

Let's start with the bunny squares.  Thanks to 4 hours at sit n' sew at the local quilt shop, I was able to get all my bunny blocks cut and most all of the bunnies basted on.  I finished the basting, as well as completing one of the bunny blocks while out and about waiting for others in my van.  The plan on those is to keep the box in my van for handwork while waiting.  I am going to be joining a stitch group for handwork as well, so we will see when that starts and what work I can plan while with the group.

I have 20 bunnies.  If I stick with these and just butt them next to each other with no sashing, it's not going to be a very large quilt.  Time will tell on what I decide to do here.

Now for my granny squares.  As you know, this was a Granny a Day 2012 challenge put out by the Hooked blog.  Click the button to check out her blog.  I have completed my blanket and my pillow both and I am done for the year.    I was going to make you all wait to see the finished products but decided not to.   I have a total of 340 squares in the blanket and pillow combined and that would have taken me to December 5.

WIP Wednesday--Handwork Is Ready

I can say that I've gotten in quite a bit of crafting in over the last week.....but not as much as I would have liked to!

Let's start with my hand applique project.  I pulled out materials and have them lined up for more bunnies.  I went and bought 2 bags of embroidery thread, and I put all my supplies into a shoebox.  My plan is to work on this Friday night at sit n' sew.  Before I work on it on the go, I need to finish up the Bambi quilt I currently have in my van to work on.
The year is coming to an end and I am getting closer to finishing up my granny a day 2012 blanket.  Here it is, day 312, November 7.

I finished crocheting up an order of a dozen dish scrubbies this week.  I really really really need to work on a set of pillowcases that are ordered as well.  I've been putting it off since I am going to try something new with them and applique on pictures.
I am still working on this knitted prayer shawl for church still.  I only pulled it out 2 evenings, so not too many more rows put on it.  I hope to get it completed over the next couple of evenings and get it delivered to church.
The challenge has been put out with our quilt guild.  I have some pre-cut blocks that I want to use for it and I have some ideas rolling around in my head.  I'm going to make mine a table runner in some flowered materials.  The completed challenge project is to be done by the April guild meeting.

Oh, so many UFO's still sitting in my craft room, and more projects that I want to start on!  I have my crafting work ahead of me.

WIP Wednesday--Workshop with Darcy Ashton

When does my life slow down to a slow crawl?  I am saying now, once Halloween is over, but just as before, it will be something else next that keeps me busy.

This past week I worked a lot on the granny squares, which I will talk more about later.  I cut strips for 2 more toothbrush rugs.  I finished a toothbrush rug that I started many months ago.
I cut out, or almost have them cut out, 5 baby bibs.

The last couple of days I've been getting treat bags made up for the trunk or treat at our church this evening.  I'm a Saline Ambassador so the bags are filled with a coloring sheet, 2 crayons, Kando wipes info sheet with coupon, Boogie Wipes sample with coupon, my business card and a Dum Dum pop.

Monday was our monthly quilt guild meeting.  Our guest speaker was Darcy Ashton.  I'm sure most of you quilters know who she is by her design books for hand applique.  In the afternoon I attended her workshop where she taught us her technique of hand applique.  She choose to have us all do the same bunny.  She is doing it and making lots of them into a quilt.  I do plan to do the same.  In fact, you know me, when I learn something new, that's all I really want to work on.  However, I am trying to be "good" and not really start too much in to it.
I do, however, want to get some materials cut and ready and into a ziplock bag that I will carry in my tote.  This is hand work so it can be on the go work.....something to pull out while I wait for others.
Here is what I got done with the one bunny before time was up for the workshop:
Now back to the granny a day 2012 challenge blanket.  I do have all of my granny squares made.  I'm itching to get the blanket done and on our bed, especially now with the cold nights.  What I have pictured today is my pile of granny squares, although I have 16 more in my craft room that I had put aside for the front of the matching pillow.  Next week I will have the photo of the blanket on the correct day.

WIP Wednesday--October 24, 2012

Well....you know me, I never did make it back in to my craft room since my post last week.

I did work on some things outside of the room, just never what I would really like to get done.

I worked on knitting the prayer shawl for church.  I had hopes of getting it done, but it didn't happen.  Knitting, for me, takes so much longer than crocheting.
I guess I did get in to my craft room, because I did the machine quilting and made the binding for the baby quilt I am working on.  I've taken it in the van with me a couple of times and have worked on sewing on the binding while I waited on others.
And, here we have day 298, October 24, of the granny a day challenge blanket I am working on.  I tried to take the photo so that you could see the corner I have left to finish.  24 more squares needed (and the edging) for this to be finished, then I will start on the pillow for the rest of the 2012 squares.  I'm still anxious to get this done and on our bed.

WIP Wednesday--Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

It's past time for me to be serious about my crafting----and this time stick to it!

I've been so super busy away from home that my blog has been neglected.  I took photos for last week's post then got busy and didn't get the post done!

Here is the photo of what I am calling the never ending quilt top for sewing club at church.  I'm going to make a real effort to work on this at home too in hopes of moving it along on being done.  I'm not getting far for sure working on it only once a month at church.  We met twice this month.

I am making these little strawberry pin cushions for quilt guild.  They go in each goody bag that will be given out at the door at our quilt show in July of next year.  I have 5 more to make.

It's past time for me to get serious about finishing up projects that I have started in my 2 UFO drawers.   This is a baby quilt with Bambi.  My first try at machine quilting since I now have a new machine and a walking foot.   I pinned it and have about half of the quilting done on it since taking the photo.

I was able to finish up some baby bibs and fabric bags over this past week.  I am still working on knitting the prayer shawl for church but forgot to take a picture of it last night.  I have one more skein of yarn to put in.

I'm behind on my granny a day challenge.  This is my blanket so far up to October 29, Day 283. I hope to have my days caught up to post this time next week!

WIP Wednesday--New Sewing Machine!

That's my big announcement for this week.  I got my new sewing machine.  No, it's nothing expensive or fancy.  In fact, with the state fair half price special and 20% off of the 3 extra feet that I ordered it was just $260!

It's a big step up from the little Brother that we bought one Black Friday at Walmart for $60.  I never complained though, and I sewed for over 4 years straight on the cheap Brother.   I will still be sewing on it too, at least if the measurements aren't the same.  I have to check that out, but have the one quilt top that may need to be finished on my old machine.

I'm loving the automatic threader and the thread cutter.  I can't wait to play with all the extra stitches that I now have too.

In other news I've not gotten much done in the craft area.  I sat last night and I wanted to finish my block for sampler but it got too late.  I do have to have it finished before sampler on Saturday, and have worked a bit more on it this morning.

The quilt shop printed out a photo of the square for us since we are using a bit different colors than what the book does.  My first time making the square in a square.  I just finished that and it looks pretty good.  And, the reason the sampler excites me because I will be learning new things.

Otherwise I have crocheted and crocheted granny squares this past week.  I didn't get anymore put on to the blanket as I am trying to see what I can make with what yarn I have left.  Again I am running low on variety of color.  I don't have many colors left now.  I will be adding to the blanket over this next week and then again making more squares.
This is just a picture of the squares I have made at the moment.

That's it for this week.  I do hope, with my new machine that I have a lot more to report next week.

WIP Wednesday--9/19/12

Not too bad of a week.
I went to sit n' sew at the quilt shop Friday evening.  I was able to get 5 strawberry pin cushions made as well as finish up a Halloween bag.

I didn't get my post up last week.  I was extra extra busy away from home with the state fair in town.

Here is what I accomplished on the quilt I am working on in sewing club at church:
Basically I just got more triangles cut and some of the half square triangles made.  I also completed 2 more of the squares.  I have a very long ways to go to get this top done for sure.  I'm upset that I am just not finding the time to work on this much.  When will things slow down so that I can actually make it in to my craft room??

Speaking of the craft room, I have not gotten anything else done in there as far as organizing either!

I finished the crocheted prayer shawl this past week.  I worked on it while I was working selling parking spots at the church where my daughter attends youth group.  They sell spaces during the state fair as a fundraiser.  I had to take her time slots since she was working at the fair.  Also in the picture is the progress I have on the knitted prayer shawl so far:
Since I finished the crocheted shawl, I then had more colors to use to make granny squares for my granny a day in 2012 challenge.  I am not caught up to the current date on putting the squares on my blanket.  Here it is done up too day 259, Sept. 15:
I'm still concerned that once again I'm not going to have a lot of colors like I would like.  Now I have very little of other colors of yarn, but a lot of greens and beiges.  It just has to work though!

Oh gosh I hope to get a lot done over the next week--all I can say is to please wish me luck there!

WIP Wednesday--Back to Work

I am trying really hard to get into a routine where, no matter how busy my day is, that I make it in to my craft room each day.

After crocheting and crocheting granny squares, I realized again that I do not have enough yarn to make all the squares needed to finish out the challenge for the year.
I picked up some yarn from church yesterday.  I'm knitting one prayer shawl and will crochet another one.  I will then have the left over yarn from those for my granny squares.

Here is my granny square a day 2012 challenge blanket---day 242, August 29:

Here is what I got done on the knitted prayer shawl so far.  Knitting is not really my thing.  THe pattern states to knit 3, pearl 3 on each row.  I tried that 3 times and all 3 times I just ended up with a confused mess.  I thought it would be easy, but I gave up.  I am just doing it totally in knit.
I completed my block of the month block.  About time since Sampler is this Saturday.  Nothing like last minute for me.
This is called Clay's Choice:
I did get my quilt pieces laid out for the quilt I am making for sewing club at church.  I didn't do anything past get my lines for half square triangles on that pile of smaller squares that you see.

At quilt guild this week the speaker showed us a super cool pattern.  I'm itching to start in on it.  I do NOT need to start something new with still so many UFO's hanging around, but I will do it anyway.  I even bought my middle fabric yesterday.

Off the top of my head I know that I have 3 sets of bibs to complete, 2 table runners, a child's quilt, the Halloween bags, and of course my crochet and knit projects as well.  IF I can stick with my plan to work in my craft room every day no matter what, things will start to get done.

WIP Wednesday--8/15/12

I couldn't think of a title today.  It's been a busy week!

I was able to complete 4 Halloween fabric bags at sit n' sew at the quilt shop.  I have 4 more cut and even some sewing done on a couple of them.  Here is just one of the prints that I made:

Here is the picture I took late last night of the prayer shawl.  I did get in to a movie afterwards and did get the rest of the fringe put on.  They have posted a need for more prayer shawls, so despite not wanting to start anything new until completing a lot of what I have started, I will be getting yarn and starting another prayer shawl.  I haven't decided if I will crochet it or knit it.

Yesterday was sewing club at church.  I don't feel like I moved much on the quilt I am working on.  I put together some more of my larger half triangles, and started on all the half triangles for around those larger ones.  I am in hopes of laying the materials out on my craft table here at home and putting in some time each day on working on it.  Seriously this is going to take me over a year just to get the top done!
Finally for today, here is my granny square a day 2012 blanket---day 228, August 15.   I did get more colors after finishing up the prayer shawl above, but I'm still nervous about having enough yarn to finish this project out.  I'm anxious to get all the squares made that I can to see if I do have enough yarn.  That's Ellie sitting in the middle of it---it's usually Molly in the middle of my pictures  LOL

I really need to get a list put together this week of projects that I have started and place it on the bulletin board in my craft room.  I didn't make any further progress on my craft room other than picking up some of the grandkids' toys.  I plan on just putting those in the garage.  They have plenty in the cabinet and drawers in the hallway to keep them busy while they are over here.  Their books will remain on the shelf in my craft room for now.
