Homeschool Journal--Getting Back in to the Swing of Things....

......or at least I hope we are! We've had a rough year (2012) with so many different things going on (a wedding, funerals, etc) that we've not gotten in many days that I call full school days. A full school day to me consists of getting out all of the books for all of the subjects and working in each one.

We have yet to have a full day of schoolwork since her return from England, but at least we can say we've touched every subject at least twice per week. It's towards the end of the school year and we do have some books we want to finish. Math and devotions are the only 2 things we have done daily.

Hubby and I ordered her a bunch of workbooks for next year. I have loved Hayes Publishing since I learned about them years ago from another homeschool mom. The workbooks are small but you do have to do some research to find the answers. Each workbook does come with answer pages and a little more info. We bought her a new laptop so she will have access to internet to help her find answers.

One thing with me is that there are just too many times when I am busy. I need to be sewing for my craft business....I'm off doing things for my mom....there are church activities....and I've even taken a little part time job twice a week. With the workbooks she will be able to do a lot of work on her own. Of course I still will be working with her a lot. I would miss it if I didn't!

Below is a photo of the workbooks we chose between the 3 of us. You can see there is a wide variety of learning. We spent $94 with shipping.

Squidoo Hopping 8/25/11--Linky

It's Thursday already this week!

You won't believe it but I did get some work done in squidoo this past week.  I almost don't believe it myself.

First I updated My Toothbrush Rugs with a couple more photos.  I still plan on making that rug bigger but for now that is on hold.

I finally got in and did the final update on Our Homeschool Journey Part 5.  Now I need to get a lens started for this school year.  I am still thinking just one lens for the entire school year where I share the books we use as well as put in some pics of Jasmine throughout the school year.

Then, I happened across My Home Town, Hutchinson, KS  on wikipedia so added some more things in to that lens.

Finally, I actually built a new lens.  This one is Finance Without Fear.  It's a book review lens.  I did the post here on my blog then hopped right over to make the lens.  They provided me with a media kit of information with the book so it was fairly easy to put together.  I forgot to add the disclaimer (do I need that for squidoo?  If so I need to get it added to all my book reviews.)  I also need to add the donation module now that I know what module to put in. (Thanks Ruthi)

I am still wanting to add the donation module to a lot of my lenses so that might be a good project for the next week to get some updating done.

I can't wait to see what everyone else has been up to this past week.....go and see some more lenses....and learn something new too.

Squidoo Hopping 4/21/11

http://www.squidoo.com/thisdayinhistoryfebruary1Welcome to this week's squidoo blog hop.  I hope you will join in!

Yikes!  I realized I hadn't updated my Gather--The BEST in Social Networking lens since the end of December.  I've went in and added all my redemptions, a prize and review that I've rec'd since.

I got busy and built 2 more of the This Day In History lenses.  This Day in History February 1  and This Day in History April 18.
Now here is my question for this week--once I get, say 12, of the This Day In History lenses, I want to start a placeholder lens.  This lens will have the links to all of the history lenses categorized by month.  My question is, what is the best module to use for this?  I want the lenses to remain in date order for easy access if someone is looking for a certain date.  I intend to use 1 module for each month, I just need to be sure that since I am making the lenses out of date order that I can add them to the place holder lens and they will be in order.  Any suggestions?

I updated My Book Reviews lens to add Home-Ec 101.  I'm hoping in the next week to get at least one book review lens done.  I also want to start music review lenses as well.

On my trek to update our homeschool and unschool journey lenses, I updated Our Homeschool Journey 2010/2011 Part 2.

I really  need to find a better way of keeping track of my lenses and when I update them etc.  Right now they are written on each page in a notebook.  When I update a lens, add it to the squidoo kingdom, add the link to redgage, etc, I make a note on the page.  It's just getting harder to keep track as I add more pages.  Any suggestions in this area?

This past week, I also deleted a lens.  I have a few more that I also want to delete---the ones dealing with online businesses that I really don't do, but built the lenses in hopes of picking up some sign ups or sales.  Needless to say it's not worked, and the only one of this type of lens I intend to keep is my Jerky Direct one.

Ok...enough blabbering from me for this week.  I look forward to seeing the submissions on the linky this week!

Squidoo Hopping 4/14/11

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Squidoo Blog Hop! I hope you will hope along with us and add your link to the list at the bottom of my post. If you don't do squidoo, won't you hop along and support the lensmasters?

I didn't get as much done on squidoo this past week as I would have wanted to. I'm going to try to be more productive with squidoo.

I did update Our Homeschool Journey 2010/2011 Part 4. With that I got an idea of how I can also update all of the previous lenses like this as well! That will be on my to do list for next week.

I also built a new book review lens: Home-Ec 101 Book Review. This is a great book. I wanted to build the lens right away as I am so excited about the book even though I was only sent chapter 20 for my own review. As you will read on the lens, I can't wait to save and buy the book in it's entirety...and at that time I will be also updating the lens with my full review.

While I am here, can someone direct me to where I can really learn (in plain English) about the page ranking of lenses? I had thought it was tier 1 1-10,000, but think I read somewhere Tier 1 is 1-5,000? And, tell me if I am wrong, but can't there then only by just 5,000 lenses in tier 1? Currently I have one lens that is ranked 4,626. That is the lowest rank I've seen it at and it bounces around, sometimes going to 12,000 or so, then back down again. This, of course, is my highest paying lens all the way around. Thanks for any help you can give me in a better understanding of all of this!

Squidoo Hopping 3/31/11

Happy Thursday and welcome to this week's squidoo blog hop! I hope to see many join...keep me busy with squidoo.

Just add the link, or links, to your squidoo blogposts to the linky. The linky remains active all week.

It looks like Our Unschooling Journey 3 is on the bottom of my list today. I hope you will click over and help move it up some for me.

And...ta da!! I actually built a new lens last night. Our Homeschool Journey 2010/2011 Part 4 It should have been started a few weeks ago, but it's started now. I will add more to it as the week's go by. I must get busy and get some photos of Jasmine doing different things too.

I went through my blog and put my reviews on my reviews/giveaways page here. This will give me easy access to make those reviews in to lenses. Lenses are so fun to build, I just have to make myself take the time to do it!

Have a great week!
