WIP Wednesday -- Craft Room Disaster

Since I didn't post last week, I didn't want to miss this week even though it's a lot later in the day than I like to write my blog.  Last week I had a medical procedure and didn't feel like doing much.

As far as crafts go, I started crocheting the Princess Anna doll.  It's frustrating for me to work with something that small and black yarn, so that's not gone far enough to even think of taking a picture.
I made 3 hacky sacks for a birthday gift for my 13 yr old step grandson, but I think I want to share those in a whole other post.
If I worked on anything else, I don't remember!

I really want to get in to my craft room and get it cleaned up and organized.  I am posting these 4 before shots even though I know I won't take the time, or have the time, to start really working on the room until after my mission trip.

Don't fall over when you look at these pictures!!

WIP Wednesday 7/30/14

Good Wednesday!

My main 'sewing' project this past week has been my attempt to get my sewing/craft room back into 'working' order.
As ashamed as I am, I'm going to show you the before picture.  Of course this is only one section of the room, mostly my crafting desk and the area in front of it.
It already looks so much better.  I actually have the desk cleared off and my cutting mat, 2 sewing machines and my tabletop ironing board back in place.
I also put away a trashbag and 2 boxes of fabric into their places.
I also hammered nails into the wall all down one side and in a few other places and have my projects hanging in bags.   I will get there!!

I was gone from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening at a Women's Encounter.  I took my red hexagon flowers with me figuring I could at least work on them on the bus there and back.
I did work on them on the way there and back, but didn't get a whole lot done.
This is for the scrappy rainbow challenge with the soscrappy blog.  You can find the button at the bottom of this post.
July's color has been red.  I look forward to what next month's color will be.  It's really motivating me to keep working on my hexagons.

We have another WIP going on with our house right now....new windows in the living room.  Poor guys are out there working in the rain.

Here is my current UFO list: (I have removed all of the finished projects from the list)
Rectangle quilt
challenge wall hanging
GoodNight Irene quilt/wall hanging
Yo-Yo Table runner
Hexagon table topper
Emerald Island Fusique table runner
Sunflower table runner and matching placemats
Five and Dime quilt
34 Hot Pads

WIP Wednesday 3/6/13

It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything---so long that I don't remember what I last posted!  Ok, I went and looked and it's been a full month since I've actually done a WIP Wednesday post!  I have been taking photos throughout the weeks though with good intentions of doing a post, so let's play catch up this week for the past month!

This is my challenge quilt progress for guild so far.  I am ready for the top stitching.

February's sewing club meeting at church.  I have no finally finished all of the half square triangles for the quilt top.  We meet again next week so hopefully I can get a lot of the blocks put together for my new photo.

Last post I linked to my before photos, but this is my craft room now.  Yes, I do still have 2 totes and 2 boxes to go through....the shelf in the last photo I didn't do anything with, as well as the shelves on the wall.  However, it's so much more pleasant to go into my room now and actually work.

Lastly, I've been working like crazy when I can crocheting cotton bath puffs.  15 of them are for an order, then I will start posting them in my etsy shop.  I took this photo a couple of days ago, so I have completed a few more since then.  Crocheting these is mostly my late night work.

Hopefully I can find the time to get a lot done this week.  It's been crazy with 2 winter storms and moving my middle daughter and her family from one town to our house, and then 5 days later to another town!

WIP Wednesday--Let's Start with My Craft Room

Let's start with my WIP of getting my craft room back in to order.  It's in such disarray, it's no wonder I don't have the motivation to get in there and get some work done!
This picture only kind of shows one corner.  You can't see everything that is piled in the northwest corner of the room, or the bookshelves in the southeast corner that are covered with other stuff as well as have toys in front of them!
I've went to the garage and got out one large shelf unit.  I had bought it to use for garage sales.  Silly me, why didn't I put it in my craft room to begin with?
You can see in the photo (maybe) the 2 small cubby organizers I have bought and have got some things organized in to.
Wish me luck that next week I can share a photo where you can see that I have made some progress in this room!
Moving on to some crafts now.   I have been knitting some knit kits  for Morehouse.  They sent them to me to do for a review.  The scarf went fast with the big needles.  The hat I've been working on here and there for over a week.  I'm not an avid knitter, and I'm not sure I've worked with needles as small as the ones for the hat before.  The hat and scarf will make a nice Christmas gift for someone.  I will have a full review on my blog once I have completed the projects.
After working on this quilt at sit n sew at the quilt shop and for a a bit here at home, it's finally to the last stage.  I am sewing on the binding.  I hope to have it done to post for TGIFF this week.
Last but not least are my granny squares for the Granny A Day 2012 challenge.  No picture of my blanket progress as I've not had time to put them on to the blanket.  This is day 207 of the challenge.  Hopefully next week I will have them on to my blanket.

Until next week!  I am linking up with the following blogs:

WIP Wednesday--I Joined Quilt Guild!

That's my big news for today! I went to the monthly quilt guild meeting here in my town. I had so much fun! They meet the last Monday of the month at 9 am. This past meeting the program was mini-demos. We were taught how to make flying geese squares along with a printed instruction sheet. We were taught how to use a binding tool and given written instructions. We were taught how to make folded hot pads and given written instructions for those as well. The last lady showed us so many things that you can make with the pre-printed panels.
After the meeting I got some one on one instructions for the hot pads. I have made 2 now. They aren't perfect...I am having trouble with the sandwiching and the material slipping---any advice on that? I have materials cut for 2 more as pictured below:

My biggest WIP this past week has been trying to re-claim my craft room. With the granddaughters not sleeping in there anymore, I thought it would just be so easy to box up all their stuff. It wasn't as easy as I imagined as there is still a mess in there. I've been forgetting to talk about this wonderful crafting desk that I bought at a yard sale for just $5!!!! I've been hankering since I bought it Oct. 29 to get to using it. This desk is a dream for me. I've seen similar in blogs. When both leafs are up it measures just under 8 feet long. It just under 2 1/2 ft from front to back. There are 3 drawers on each side and one in the middle, and an additional drawer in the middle on the front side. I have pretty much filled up the drawers now with smaller items. I can't wait now to get the cubby organizers that I want and really put my work room in order. Here is a picture of my craft table with lots of projects on top of it. Projects include the squares I am making for a flower quilt....material to make a table runner....squares for a quilt top I am making for church....bibs that need snaps. (In the picture above you will see that one end of the desk now holds my cutting mat)

Time to be off and see what others are working on. I am linking up with these blogs:

WIP Wednesday--Getting My Smokey On!

My goal is to finish this Dora quilt by Friday. I want to be able to list it in my TGIFF post as well as have it listed in my etsy store.
I have a long ways to go and a short time to get there, as it says in the Smokey and the Bandit song.

Pictured below is the quilt and my progress, along with the matching pillow. I have since sewn the top of the pillow (about midnight last night) so it's done. The second photo I am trying to show you a close-up of my hand quilting.

I admit it's been neat doing it, but also admit my frustrations. I'm sure glad it doesn't have to be perfect, and I thank the many people who have pointed out to me not to worry about imperfections in quilting. I do hope this Dora quilt and pillow will make some little girl happy.

My biggest problem is what to do with the knots. Since it's backed with a pre-made quilted fabric, I've not been able to "hide" the knots. The only ones that are sort of hidden are where I got to start on the edge.

I was sewing some other things and I have this habit. My habit is to keep sewing until the bobbin in the machine is empty. I don't worry about the color of the thread when sewing quilt squares together. In the picture below you will see my pile of squares, along with the strips I have left, of the flowered material. I'm still anxious to see just how many squares I get, in hopes of enough for 2 quilt tops.

My sewing is put on hold for the moment. I will be moving this table out of the living room to put up the Christmas tree. As of right now the grandkids have moved back out. I'm in the process of cleaning up the middle bedroom and making it back in to my craft room. I thought I could just go throw their stuff in boxes and be done, but it's not working out that way. I should have included a picture of my messy progress. I never told you gals about the wonderful crafting desk I was able to buy at a yard sale for just $5!! I will try to share a picture next week, along with me ready to get back to sewing.

WIP Wednesday 4/6/11

Alas....nothing changed as far as my craft room this past week.  Those same 3 boxes are sitting in the middle of the floor to be looked through, and the chest of drawers is still piled with clothes to look through.  Not that big of a deal.

After 2 months of canceling due to weather, we were finally able to have sewing club at church again yesterday.  I was able to finish up 2 strip quilt tops I had previously started.  The yellow one is pictured complete....the blue one I took the photo and then ended up having enough time to put the edging around it...didn't think to take another photo at that point.

I'm in the middle of working on an order for my friend of 2 hot pads and 4 washcloths, all in black.

I also did get a start on working on the rug I am making for our basement floor but didn't get a photo of it.  I will see about getting some more work on it before next Wednesday and getting a photo.

For now, I am heading in to my craft room and I'm going to prepare all the material I have to make fabric bags.  I have enough material right now to make 6 of them.  Can't sell them if they aren't made!

WIP Wednesday 3/30/11

We are still getting settled in here at the house...my craft room is getting closer to being unpacked and organized...although that may be a never ending process.  I'm sharing my progress video below.
I'm also sharing a photo of my current project which is making 3 bags for an order, then I have materials to make 5 more bags as well.

My daughter wants to have a garage sale here this Friday and Saturday.  Yep...major WIP going on today as we sort through the totes and boxes that got moved in to the garage.  As far as my own yard sale items, no problem, as they are all boxed up in one place in the garage.  The hardest work is just to get the tables up and such.

WIP Wednesday 3/23/11

WIP's----too many to list.
As far as crafts though the only thing I'm actually working on is crocheting a double thick hotpad for my friend.

I'm in the process still of attempting to unpack and organize my craft/all purpose room.  I did this video and plan on sharing one each week as I make progress.  Hopefully it will give me the motivation I need to keep working on it since I will be sharing a new video each week until the room is done.
