Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Senior Discounts and More

This week I spent right at $20 for my food for the week.  I bought a lot of the same stuff--a banana, an orange, a yogurt, 2 Lunchables, 2 Michalini frozen entrees, a string cheese, a snack cheese, and 3 2 ltrs of Dr Pepper.  I also splurged on a package of cookies.   I found that the Oscar Mayer ham and cheddar lunchables that also include 2 cookies were on sale for just $1 each.   My oldest daughter bought me 2 more to save to take to my quilt retreat since the use by dates on them go into June (my retreat is the end of this month).

I'm re-thinking this food stuff.  In my mind I thought I could live on lunchables and frozen meals, throwing in some cheese, yogurt and fresh fruit, but I found this week that I am already tired of this.  I will be figuring some different things for next week such as buying a dozen eggs since you can do so many different things with eggs, bagged salad, and such.    I wanted the ease of the others, but it doesn't hurt me to actually spend some time fixing myself a meal.

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Getting Back on Track

I got my new power cord late last Friday.  Thank goodness it was just what my laptop needed to work again!  Not only that, my daughter's boyfriend helped me find one on amazon for just $9.99.
A week later, I am still trying to get back on track with my online routines.

It's been a wild week for sure.  I first would like to report my online and app earnings, which are for 2 weeks since I didn't post last Friday.

In other news, my husband has a new job position which takes him out of town for the week.  This leaves me shopping for my own meals for the week.  It's been "fun" to see just what I can get for the little that I have to spend.  The first week I only spent just over $10 for my food for the week.  This included 3 2 ltrs of my Dr Pepper (addiction).  The foods I bought were an orange, a banana, a yogurt, Michelina Manicotti, Armor lunchable, and a Banquet breakfast pot pie.  These along with foods already on hand, and I feel I ate well.
This week hubby is on vacation and we shopped at Aldi.  I must shop there more often.  I am going to shop there for myself this next week and see what I, and for how much.


Ok....this week's Friday Freebie will help me out.  It's Tic Tac gum.   I am working towards quitting smoking and just said last night that I needed some gum.   Link also says Burpee seeds but so far I'm not seeing that coupon on my app or online for my area.  Good luck!

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Cheap Eats

Seems we've been eating pretty well this week, and at a very small cost.  I love it when I plan comes together.  Ok, so there was no real plan, but it all worked out the same.

A couple weeks ago hubby did extremely well when he picked up a pork roast on sale for just $5.75.  I cut 9 chops (3 meals for the 2 of us) as well as left the end for a 4th meal.  The 4th meal ended up being pulled pork sandwiches.  Oh so good!

I had fixed the first 2 sets of 3 pork chops in the crock pot and added half the bag of Uncle Ben's Flavor Infusion Rice towards the end of cooking.  The Uncle Ben's was a Friday Freebie with Dillon's (Kroger).

When I went shopping, I first looked thought the Ibotta app to see if there was anything I could try to get towards suppers that I could add to my rebates there.
I marked several things, but only ended up getting 2 of them.

I bought a box of 6 White Castle Sliders with a 50 cents rebate.  At $4.97 a box (not on sale), that is not the most frugal thing...not even if you subtract the 50 cents I will get from ibotta).
However, hubby and I each ate 2, along with macaroni salad and potato salad that a lady in the quilt guild sent me home with from the Christmas party.
It made a very filling meal and hubby was able to have the other 2 sliders as part of his supper last night while I was out babysitting for grandchildren.

I also chose to get Reames Frozen Noodles with a 70 cent rebate from ibotta.  $2.39 for those, not on sale.  I wondered over to the marked down meat section and found a package of cubed turkey for $1.99.
Hubby fixed up a soup adding a can of carrots and chopped onion.  Voila!  Supper for 2 nights.



We had the last 3 pork chops one night with the rest of the macaroni salad and potato salad.

It's a new month, and time for me to scroll through the Ibotta app and see if there is anything I can put on my list to help with suppers this week.

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- One Thing Leads To Another

Per my usual self, I am easily sidetracked when I see something of interest on the internet.
Yesterday it was a push notification from Six Dollar Family.  The post was about her and her daughter moving into an extended stay motel.

They went from a 3 bedroom house to a hotel room.  I have thoughts of downsizing all of the time.  I look around at all of the stuff surrounding us in our own 3 bedroom house.

Frugal living and simple living go hand in hand.  Too many times I've tried to start sorting and getting rid of excess (and it's a LOT!).  Well, I've started on it again just with all of the stuff that is piled around me here at my desk.....under my desk, on the printers, under and around my chair, under and on a TV tray that sits by me.

So far I'm only sorting all of these sewing projects and misc fabrics and such, but it is a start.  It also needs to be a very good start to actually getting all of these sewing projects done.  I guess I just say wish me luck at this point as I'm realizing I only have a few weeks now to even get all of my Christmas gifts sewn!

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Rummage Sale, Freebies and More

This week has just flown by.  My apologies for not getting a Frugal Friday post up last week.  I was busy at an all day lap quilt day.  We made lap quilts for the Pleasantview Home in Inman, Kansas.  Right when that event was over I headed back to town for the monthly sit n' sew night at the church.

We were served lunch at the lap quilt event and I just ran into the store and bought a $1 Lunchable for my supper at the quilt shop.

I was so busy last Friday that I totally forgot to load up my Friday Freebie from Kroger stores!  Last week it was free m&m's too, so I'm sad missing out on free candy.  This week it's free Idahoan Potato Soup, so don't miss out!

Yesterday I posted about Daily Break.  I already went in today and played a little.  I hope you all have given it a try.  It's now on my to do daily list.  I can't wait to get enough points to trade in for an amazon gift card.  There are other choices as well as what to do with the points you earn for having fun.  I'm posting the image again that you can click on if you didn't get a chance to check it out yet.



The church where we take the children on Wednesday evenings for classes and activities is having a rummage sale tomorrow.   I love church rummage sales.  There is always so much to choose from, and that sure is the case at this one! 
We got to rummage Wednesday night.  Sure, there were loads of things I would liked to have picked up, but no need to buy things that we really don't need.

I ended up with a pair of Nike's for $1, 4 bags of thread for 50 cents each, a bag of baby bottles for $1, a sippy cup and toddler snack cup and a Pampered Chef sandwich maker.    I think I did well for just $5 total.

We will be going back tomorrow at noon when the clothes go on a sack sale.  We seen plenty of nice clothes, but for us, the prices of $1 and more was just too much to pay.  I'm hoping to find a couple pairs of good jeans for myself and maybe some winter shirts as well as baby clothes.

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Saving Change

Do you save your change?  I have for years and years.  Most of the time I am saving it for something specific.  In recent years I've been saving it to help me pay to be able to attend the quilt retreats.
One time I was saving it just because and it ended up paying for 3 nights for us to rent a camper one vacation!

This past week I virtually had no money and it was the monthly ladies lunch and games day at church.  The other ladies decided amongst themselves that we would go to Spangles to eat.  hhmmm.....how were my mom and I do do that with no money?
I've been putting my change in the change slots in the console of my car and the quarter slot was full and the nickel and dime slots were close to full.
I used that change to pay for our lunches!!

No, eating out is not really frugal, but saving your change is a good way to save up for a treat like that.   Plus, it's good socially and mentally to have the day out too.

Swagbucks saved me this week when my $25 PayPal redemption came in just in time to cover an automatic payment coming out of my PayPal and the cats were out of food and we were out of toilet paper, and my car was close to empty!
Even better news with Swagbucks is that I will have enough points today to cash out for another $25 in PayPal, that I'm sure again will come in just when I need it.

Speaking of cat food, I found out that Ibotta offers a small percent back for shopping amazon through my phone and that pet supplies is on their list.   I should have just enough left in my gift card balance to get another bag of cat food ordered, which should come in just when I run out of what I bought at the store tomorrow.   I've only been cashing out for amazon once a month through Swagbucks when I can get the once a month special to get the $25 gift card for 2200 sb instead of 2500.

Very nice to be able to earn online and with apps!

I'm super busy working on different sewing projects.  I will be getting more things listed for sale in my Etsy shop, plus I am getting things ready to enter into the State Fair.  You will see my progress on these items in my WIP Wednesday post.
Of course I am using supplies that I have won at the quilt retreats and that people have "handed down" to me when cleaning out their sewing rooms, or left overs from other projects.   I am very blessed to have an ongoing supply to keep my busy making things.

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Week in Review

I still plan to share printable coupons, freebies, sweepstakes etc, but I want to get back to my Frugal Friday posts being about frugal things that I am doing (or want to do).

This week I want to start out talking about re-purposing t-shirts.  Many of you already know that I use them to make rugs and then use the tops of the t-shirts to cut into re-usable rags.

I needed to deep clean in the kitchen and realized that I had no rags under the sink!  I went to my craft room and pulled out the pile of t-shirts that I had gotten at a rummage sale for $1 for the bag.    I was going to only cut up a couple of them, but then decided why not just cut the whole pile.

I have rolls to make rugs with (that I shared in my WIP Wednesday post), but I also now have this basket full in the utility room.  Should be enough to keep up going in rags for some time.

I think I've mentioned briefly that my middle daughter made us all homemade deodorant.   I sure do love using it!  She made it for us the 4th of July and as you can see in the picture, I still have a few months of use left out of the container she made for me.

I've been anxious to make some myself ever since she gave it to us, but there is no hurry since I have at least a couple more months of use of what she gave me.

You can search homemade deodorant recipes and find lots of them online.  (Be sure to use Swagbucks, MyPoints, or Inboxdollars for your searches so that you are also earning for your searches!)
Basic ingredients are corn starch, baking soda, coconut oil and essential oil of your choice.

This stuff is great, and it really works.  It does take your body a few weeks to adjust to it, and you may not like that you still seems to sweat through, but that stops!   I made the mistake of not having it with me while at my daughters and got out my other deodorant from my bag.  I felt icky and sticky in my underarms all day and didn't like it one bit!

If you have Aldi in your area, I suggest buying the coconut oil. baking soda and corn starch there.

Frugal Friday With Marsha -- Camping

Hubby's vacation time and we have a camping trip planned.
Originally it was to a lake and the usual tent camping with the family.  Well, then we changed our minds and decided to go to Spring Lake RV Resort and rent a 5th wheel camper to stay in.  Others in the family will still camp in their tent.

If I could buy a new tent, this one looks awesome!


Not as frugal as tent camping, but compared to spending those nights in a motel, it's a good deal.  It's $50 a night for the camper.  The camper comes with the dishes, cookware, eating and cooking utensils, toaster, coffee pot, and microwave in addition to the stove and oven built in to the camper.
They even provide the toilet paper, paper towels, and dish soap.

Spring Lake also offers a regulation swimming pool, so no swimming in the yucky lake water.
They have lots of activities going on like bingo on Friday night, ice cream social on Saturday night, church on Sunday morning.  Plus, it's their Christmas in July weekend so they other fun events planned for the weekend as well.

We are going a lot more frugal on our food this time.  Usually we just shop and buy everything at once that we plan for the meals while camping.  This ends up usually being around $100 or so just for food.  This time we are taking a lot from what we already have here at the house and have spent very little other than that....only around $20 for things we needed to fill in.

I cooked up some chicken in the crockpot and used my grinder.  This will be turn into chicken salad sandwiches for one lunch.  We are taking a pork roast from the deep freeze and taking along the large crockpot to cook it in.  That will give us a nice supper with leftovers.  Mac and cheese on the side.
