Frugal Friday With Marsha 6/13/14

It's Friday the 13th.....are you superstitious? I'm not and if anything, I consider it lucky, not unlucky.

Last night we were watching Extreme Cheapskates on TLC. No, I couldn't find anything better to watch.
It was all shows that I've seen in the past.
They call it extreme for a reason.

Some things are way overboard like sharing dental floss---gross! Sharing bath water---uummm no.
I know there are a lot of people all over the world who dumpster dive for food. I've seen it here first hand. I don't think that I could ever do that!
(I have been known to take the laundry mat trash years ago to gather Tide or other brands UPC's to order toys, shirts and such)
I don't think I could handle the cut up shirts for toilet paper---just the thought of a dirty can on them in the bathroom doesn't make me feel so good.
How about the family that washed their dishes in the baby swimming pool. All 3 of us heard them say that AFTER the kids are done in the pool then they wash their dishes---ok.....

Some things are very useful such as using dryer lint as fire starter. Timed showers to save water isn't a bad idea.
I'm not opposed to vacuuming and such after midnight if the electric rates really are cheaper then.
Dumping your boiling water on weeds after your pasta is cooked, to kill the weeds----does this really work?
Riding a bicycle over driving a car---always a pretty good idea for health reasons too.

Over the years I've gotten furniture, and even carpeting from dumpsters behind stores. Nothing too wrong with that.

I can't say I've done much this week other than the usual hanging laundry on the line to dry and trying to keep lights off around the house.
We did shop at Aldi. I only had $20 to spend but that got me 3 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts, a pound ground beef, 1 pound ground turkey, 4 lbs of sugar, can of mandarin oranges and a bag of frozen California mix veggies. $19.76 to be exact.
(We get our income tax refund finally next week and will be doing a stock up on food shopping trip to Aldi)
Oh, we bought a stand up deep freeze for $75 too.

How has your week been?

Squidoo Hopping 6/12/14

Good Thursday morning to everyone!

I hope it's been a good squidoo week.
I have had a few sales, so that excites me.
Payday might just be tomorrow too....again, that excites me.

I managed to do a little updating to lenses this past week. What I need to learn to do more is promoting. It doesn't matter how busy I am, I must take time to promote!
It's been a hit and run week.

How are things for you in squidoo land?

WIP Wednesday 6/11/14

My big WIP over the last week was still looking through things for the yard sale that we had last Saturday.
In other words, I didn't do a thing towards sewing or quilting.

That's not exactly true as I did pack up a bag of projects.  This bag has my Goodnight Irene blocks to work on, my 2nd scrappy rectangle table runner to sandwich, and my scrappy log cabin table runner to sew the binding down on.

I will work on these 3 projects this afternoon at my stitch group as well as Friday night at sit n' sew at the quilt shop.   Then I will have progress to report next week!

In the meantime, yesterday was our monthly sewing club meeting at church.
The gals gave me a simple child's top to work on.   The blocks with the Indian pictures were donated to our club by another church member.  She painted those.
I did get the top together.  Now it's up to the other gals in our club to finish it up.

Also later this month is our 2 day retreat with my quilt guild.  How many things can I get off of my list by the time the retreat is over??

Swagbucks kicks off the 3rd Annual Dads vs Grads Team Challenge

Swagbucks is going BIG this week to celebrate both our dads and our grads! First, on June 10th, Swagbucks kicks off the 3rd Annual Dads vs Grads Team Challenge -- it's how they turn a little friendly competition into a SB-earning party!

Dads vs Grads begins Tuesday, June 10th (on the West Coast) and ends at 12pm (noon) PT on Friday, June 13th! Each activity equates to a different point value, so every time you earn SB you also contribute:
  • Surveys: 4 pts to your team total
  • Encrave: 3 pts
  • Games: 3 pts
  • Search: 2 pts
  • Special Offers: 2 pts
  • SBTV: 1 pt
  • Redeem Swag Codes: Every Swag Code you redeem also adds 1 pt to your team total
The team with the most points by noon PT on Friday wins! But as long as you contribute at least 1 pt to your team, you'll win bonus SB: 25 SB for the 1st place team & 10 SB for 2nd place team members. HOWEVER: If you contribute 400+ points to your team, your bonus will be even BIGGER: 100 SB & 75 SB, respectively.

To top off all the SB-earning fun, Swagbucks is also releasing a Dads vs Grads special set of Collector's Bills today, 6/10. And tomorrow, Wed, 6/11, they're throwing a GraDADuation Swag Code Extravaganza -- your chance to win up to 35 SB in Swag Codes alone. Bonus: Those Swag Codes count towards the Team Challenge!!

Frugal Friday With Marsha 6/6/14

I have spent most all of my free time this week decluttering, organizing, and pricing things and boxing them up to have a yard sale this weekend.
Now the weather is not cooperating at all. Temps are going to be perfect for a sale with highs only in the upper 70's and lower 80's, but it's supposed to be storming off and on from now until Sunday.

Boo! to the weather!
We put half of the stuff in the garage but there is just no way to fit it all in there. It's in there now, but you can't get in the garage.

I can look on the bright side, I guess, that we have another week to continue to look through things and get more things priced to put out to sell. And say some heavy prayers that it's not raining next weekend.

I'm happy to say that one thing that I got totally cleaned out and organized is one side of our storage in the hallway.
It now holds only the towels and then I have our sheet sets and all of the grandchildren's bedding in there now. That is a good feeling.
Since moving in here all of their bedding has been kept just thrown into my craft room closet. It's always such trouble to dig it out around my totes of completed crafts.

I have several areas that I now hope to get to this next week before the next possible sale.

What have you been up to this week?

Squidoo Hopping 6/5/14

It's one of my grandchildren's birthdays today.  If you've been following me for awhile you know that I started doing This Day In History lenses.
I was fully intending on making a lens for every day of the year, but I was starting by doing dates of the birthdays in my family.

Some day I really would like to even finish getting birthdays in!  It wouldn't hurt to attempt to go ahead and try to start then filling in other dates.

I went in today to June 5 and added birthday pictures of Zelda to the bottom on my lens.  I will add a picture from her 3rd birthday later today after her party.
Then I hope to go add pictures to all of the grandkids' birth dates.

This is just one of MANY ways that I can be updating lenses.

Wild days all the way around at my house.

Happy squidooing!!

WIP Wednesday--Goodnight Irene is Finally Caught Up!

I didn't get much else done....well anything else done....this past week, but my Goodnight Irene sew along project is finally caught up through May!

I have my border blocks ready to work on at sit n' sew this month and will finish the border at the quilt retreat later this month.  That will take care of keeping up with June.

I have a couple of other things put in a bag to work on at sit n' sew as well.  It's not until the 13th so I will need to see what I can work on this week.

The past few days, and the rest of this week my WIP is again sorting, decluttering, organizing and such around the house.
We are having another yard sale on Saturday.   This will be the last one at my house, so I'm trying to get as much stuff looked through as I can.
Yard sales are a lot of work no matter how you look at it.

Here are my lists again:
